Gribz 966
Good results last night see's Hibs slip into the play off spot. If Kilmarnock get a draw at Easter Road on Saturday then Hibs will be in the play off. If Hibs go down then its a wet dream for Doncaster and Co, how jammy can they get! Rangers v Hearts 4 times, Rangers v Hibs 4 times, Edinburgh derby 4 times. A top flight league of 18 is a must.
Guest Handwringer Loyal
had a quick look at average attendances in spfl prem and championship if hibs go down, dunfermline go up and falkirk stay put then the championship would have 5 teams with attendances equal to or greater than the bottom 5 in the prem (us, hertz, hivs, dunfermline and falkirk versus st mirren, ict, ross county, st johnstone, kilmarnock). the championship would almost be as popular and certainly more competitive than the top flight. might actually force the inept powers that be to enlarge scotland's top league

Doncaster has always accepted that a 16 team league is the best solution but argued (rightly up to now) that the Clubs would never buy it because of the reduced number of league games (and he said that they wouldn't accept return to a group stage type League Cup to make up the games either). However, it is by no means impossible that the scenario you paint could lead to a quick change of minds.
Whosthedado 1,742
Most exciting league next season is definitely going to be the Championship. The play offs should have been introduced years ago
Gribz 966
Most exciting league next season is definitely going to be the Championship. The play offs should have been introduced years ago Agreed but only the SPL / SFA could fuck this up. Having a first round play off between 3rd v 4th then another round for the winner v 2nd place team means one team potentially plays another load of games. Its designed to try keep the SPL side up. It should be 2nd bottom in top flight v 4th in Championship and 2nd v 3rd.......
andy steel 0
It should be two down, with the play off place for a guaranteed promotion, like in England. There would still be the level of 'excitement' about which team would go down from the top league as there is to see who will be in the play off place. As you say, everything is geared to protecting the top league team, although that might come in handy for us should we ever get there.

Of course, as it is in the other divisions; it might come with time but I think they had to start this way to get it passsed. At the very least the SPL 11th should play the winners of 3rd v 4th and then the winners of that v the 2nd.
