Guest Night Owl
Who said that? Deary me. Was all over the rags for a couple of days not that long ago..He was destined for great things n all that. Never understood the hype personally but they've obviously took lessons from Celtic's PR department.
Ser Barristan Selmy 222
To be honest I can't recall a real player Scotland has produced in the last 15 years aside from McGregor and Ferguson. Perhaps Hutton but he's been atrocious since he left us.
Calgacus 8
Perhaps our 17 year olds & 18 year olds aren't as good as Dundee Utd's 17 year olds & 18 year olds ? How do we know if they're any good or not? The manager is clearly no judge of a player.
bluebear54 0
The young lads we had playing regular games last season would have given that Arab side a run for their money today. McKay, Naismith & Crawford for example, would not have been out of place at all. As others have been mentioning, we're not improving and developing players. That goes both for seniors and the younger ones.
der Berliner 3,885
Now, while this OP at first glance sound rather reasonable, what about digging somewhat deeper? Why does Dundee United have to field all these "apparently" talented youngsters? Why have they done so in the past? ... and why, after becoming runners-up in the UEFA Cup in 1987 have they won a massive 2 Scottish Cups, ending up losing 4 more finals as well as 2 League Cup finals? Scottish football feeds of Rangers and the Yahoos and has been for decades. They simply have to produce generations of youngsters, some of the latter perhaps good enough to go to either of the Old Firm or ending up in England. For anything else for these clubs means staring at oblivion, e.g. Hearts, Motherwell, Dundee, Dunfermline, et al. That is not to say Rangers should continue their buying-policy or continue to neglect their own youngsters, not least out of economic reasons these days. It just shows why the rest of Scotland simply has to be so "good" at producing youngsters.
