ian1964 10,826
We're Still Title Contenders LUCA GASPAROTTO insists Rangers are still in contention for the SPFL Under-20 title despite a draw at St Johnstone which damages their chances of success. Celtic are the team which is best placed at present following a 3-0 win over Motherwell on Monday at Lennoxtown. Although they sit second on goal difference behind Hibernian, the Edinburgh side has played twice more than both them and the Light Blues after their 3-3 draw with Kilmarnock. But Gers are four points behind their Glasgow rivals having tied 2-2 at McDiarmid Park last night and with just six games left it has become harder to take the crown. One of the remaining fixtures is a derby with Stephen Frail’s side though and if that is won Gordon Durie’s men would be right back in the mix. Canadian defender Gasparotto scored his sixth goal of the season in Perth to open the scoring after just two minutes. Dylan Dykes then extended the advantage ahead of the break with a penalty and Durie’s team looked very comfortable at the midway stage. To only take one point rather than three having been in that position was frustrating for Gasparotto but he maintains there can still be plenty of twists and turns. The 18-year-old said: “It’s disappointing when you throw away a lead after being 2-0 up with 20 minutes of the game remaining. “We were in control for more than an hour after a good start and then we gave away two cheap goals. “We’ll analyse it, work in training and fix it this week and we’ll be ready to go for Sunday’s SFA Youth Cup game with St Mirren. “We’ve dropped two points and it has become tough for us in the league but we’re certainly not out of it. “We’ve still to play Celtic and anything is possible. They could lose games, Hibs could lose games and we could win a few. Anything can happen.” http://www.rangers.co.uk/news/academy-news/item/6716-were-still-title-contenders
