Odd reports from Italy. Gattuso coming to Gers!

Recommended Posts

On the continent - "coach" is often used instead of the term "manager".

Yes. "Trainer" is also used regularly as a synonym of "Coach" nowadays, both would / could be equated with "manager" in Britain. Don't know how it works in Italy though. I'd doubt that Gattuso is a future Rangers manager though, well, at least not within the next 10 years. We could do, as I said above, with a bit of continental flair and work ethic at coach level though. I actually wonder why that has not been persued for some time, BTW.

NB: I just noted that the Evening Times fell for the same "soft" claim of that Eurosport article.

I'd rather have Gattusso as Ally's assistant than Durrant.

World Cup winners are few and far between with any kind of link to Scotland and Rangers. What an inspiration it would be for our young stars.

Ian Durrant was a far better player than Gattusso. Unfortunately an effin sheep shagger cut, no scythed, his career to a halt.

I agree Pete, Durrant was a far better player but as a coach....what does he add? Gattusso would add an edge.

It is difficult to judge what say he has in the decision making or what he would do if he was the manager. Unfortunately he will probably have the Watty style of management.

Gattusso has not proven himself as a coach either, certainly no moreso than Durrant. What has he done ? He has had two failed attempts in management and who has he coached, ever ???

And, sorry, but "adding an edge" doesnt really make you a coach either. Adding what kind of edge ? The terrier mentality that Gattuso had ? That is only a fraction of what is required.

Does being Ally's best mate qualify you as a coach? Gattusso has won the CL twice, Serie A twice and a World Cup, he's also much younger than Durrant and has played with some of the best players in the world. He's had two spells in coaching both with basket case clubs (Sion and Palermo) and to top it all he's still only 35. Being a great player does not make you a good coach your right, but you can level that at Durrant equally.

Don't you think we could do with some of Rino's "terrier" mentality at Rangers? I sure do.
