Zappa 0
Experienced forward joins the Blues Posted: Tue 11 Feb 2014 Author: Andy Hall Spanish-born striker Nacho Novo has joined United on a short-term contract today which keeps him at Brunton Park until the end of the current campaign. Novo, 34, played for Racing Ferrol, Somozas and Huesca in his native Spain before taking the step into Scottish football with Raith Rovers in 2001. 18 goals in 33 appearances caught the eye of Dundee and he moved to Dens Park for £100,000 ahead of the 2002/03 campaign. He bagged an impressive 26 goals in 71 games for the Dees and another six figure fee, reported to be in the region of £500,000, took the mobile front man to Glasgow giants Rangers for a six year stay which reaped 47 goals from 179 appearances. Spells with Legia Warsaw and Huesca followed until he returned north of the border on a short term deal in October last year with Scottish Championship outfit Greenock Morton. http://www.carlisleunited.co.uk/news/article/novosigns11feb14-1346040.aspx Carlisle United have signed former Rangers striker Nacho Novo on a short-term contract, subject to clearance. United manager Graham Kavanagh revealed terms had been agreed with the 34-year-old Spaniard following the Cumbrians' 1-0 win over Bradford on Tuesday. Kavanagh told BBC Radio Cumbria: "He's scored goals wherever he's played and brings intelligence and cleverness to the team. He's a new option for us." Novo scored 71 goals for Rangers in six seasons with the Ibrox club. He left Rangers in 2010 to play in Spain, but last summer had trials with Rangers and Kilmarnock before joining Morton on a short-term contract. "It's about getting his clearance now, I'm not really sure the time frame on that, but I imagine he will be available for our next game," said Kavanagh. "It's pleasing, all the players we've signed up to now have been generally young and inexperienced, and he gives us a know-how and knowledge and composure that I hope will rub off on the other players and excite the fans." http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/26152472
