Two-Game Ban For Bilel

Written by Andrew Dickson

BILEL MOHSNI has been hit with a two-match ban for his weekend red card and Ally McCoist has urged him to channel his energy in the right way from now on.

The French Tunisian defender was dismissed in the second half of the 2-1 win over Brechin on Saturday for kicking the ball away after play had stopped and hitting Andy Jackson.

That sparked an immediate one-match suspension in the league but because it was his second dismissal of the campaign, he has to sit out a second fixture too as a matter of course.

Mohsni was also given a second yellow card after the final whistle of the 1-0 win at Airdrieonians on January 2.

Now the stopper will sit out League One clashes with Ayr United and Stenhousemuir on February 15 and 22 but he has the threat of a third ban hanging over him.

The four yellow cards which all came together to make two reds don’t contribute towards his tally of bookings.

As such, he is still on five cautions in the title race and when a player hits six he has to sit out a game, delayed 14 days from whenever the final offence occurs.

Manager McCoist held talks with former Southend player Mohsni before training this morning as the pair cleared the air.

He will be able to call upon the 26-year-old for Friday’s Scottish Cup tie against Dunfermline but then he won’t play again until next month’s trip to East Fife on March 1.

McCoist said: “I was very angry and disappointed on Saturday. Bilel knew that and the sending off was silly and needless. It put us under a little bit of pressure.

“We had a good chat about it this morning and he’s in total agreement with the sending off, as you would expect. It was a silly thing to do but now we move on.

“We don’t want it to happen again obviously and hopefully we can learn lessons from that particular incident.

“Bilel is like Madjid Bougherra was in many ways. They’re both really passionate about their football and they react differently when they think an injustice has taken place.

“There was certainly no injustice in the sending off though. We just have to direct Bilel’s passion and his natural aggression and sometimes he needs to take a step back.

“If that means counting to 10, he needs to count to 10. As I’ve said to him today, he’s no use to us if he’s suspended.

“He’s of use to us on the park winning games and I thought he played well in the first half. Some of his distribution down the left to Lee Wallace and David Templeton was excellent.

“That’s what we want to see from him and we need to see that. He’s very well aware he’s not any use to the team when he’s sitting in the stand.”

The problem (apart from him losing it so often) is that any opposition worth their salt will now go out and boot him all ways, looking fora reaction, safe in the knowledge that we appear to recruit refs at this level from the local Tae Kwon-Do club.

He's made a rod for his own back.
