pete 2,511
Luca Gets Canadian CallWritten by Andrew Dickson LUCA GASPAROTTO has been called up by Canada’s senior national team for the first time and will join them for a training camp in Florida next week. The 18-year-old, currently on loan at League Two side Stirling Albion, will travel to meet up with Benito Floro’s squad on Sunday. His selection effectively means his stay with the Binos will end early after their game with Queen’s Park at Airdrie’s New Broomfield ground on Saturday. Gasparotto was meant to remain with Stirling until after their clash with Berwick the following weekend but he’ll still be in the USA at that point. The teenager has only played two games since going to Forthbank before Christmas and was sent off when he made his debut at Peterhead. In his more recent outing, a 2-1 win over East Stirlingshire three days ago, he overcame fellow Murray Park loanee Calum Gallagher as he turned out for John Coughlin’s team. Gasparotto’s time playing under Greig McDonald has been as valuable as it has been brief as he has kept getting game time during the SPFL Under-20 League winter break. The defender will miss Rangers’ first game upon the competition’s resumption when they face Ross County on January 21. But he will then come back into Gordon Durie’s pool on a high having made the step up from Canada’s youth sides. Coach Ian Durrant said: “Luca’s looking forward to it and it’s a good time to go to Florida given the weather there compared to here. “He is highly regarded by the coaches within Canada’s national set-up and they liaise a lot with the club. “Luca will be training over there for 10 days and he has been enjoying his time at Stirling Albion as well. It’s a good learning curve for him. “There are a lot of good, experienced players in League Two and it has been a good test for him as he tries to improve as a centre-half. “Stirling have been good enough to allow Luca to leave early and he’ll be looking to go away on a high with a good result for them this weekend. “He’ll go to Florida and hopefully come back refreshed and ready to kick on again. He has had a wee taste of games at Rangers and can hopefully get some more games here.” Hopefully he gets a chance with Rangers next year as McCulloch is getting too old for the top divisions.

Juancornetto 1
If we're not careful we'll lose him to a Canadian or MLS club... the boy is good enough clearly so should be either playing or on the bench for Rangers with the carrot of a start if he performs when he gets the chance.

Would like to see more of Luca & Heggarty over the rest of the season - Possibly giving Jig (or Mohsni) a rest every couple of games.
Tumshie RFC 0
With us being so far ahead in the league it's an ideal time to blood the likes of Luca and Stoney. I'd quite happily sacrifice our unbeaten record if it meant giving the youngsters a chance.
Crimson Dynamo 128
He certainly sounds like he deserves a chance of a continued run in the first team more-so considering how far we are in front of everyone else. I'd give Scott Gallacher a shot in goal as well
Juancornetto 1
Pity he's at Stirling Albion on loan

What makes you say that mate? Ally has McCulloch, Mohsni, Cribari, Perry, Hegarty and Faure all ahead of him. Luca is way down the pecking order. It's unrealistic to expect Luca to get a chance. Ally has signed too many people to play ahead of him, on much more money too. Let's not also forget, it's a Canada squad he has been picked for, not the USA, Brazil or Spain, Canada.

No reason at all why we can't bleed some youths this season
