26th of foot 6,179
Three streets for a penny returns to bite ra Sellik and the then GDC(now GCC) in the arse. Good. Reference McConnell and Haughey, the machinations of Scottish Enterprise(Glasgow) a decade past are most illuminating. Scottish Enterprise(Glasgow) was the dynamic that secured the Commonwealth Games for Glasgow. The Board of that quango included Wullie Haughey, Alex Mosson, Paul Cooney, Charlie Gordon, Stephen Purcell, ................. etc
bluebear54 0
Such karma. The Eastern Horde were innovators in bringing complaint after complaint about Rangers to officialdom and the media - they've been at it for years now. The songs we sing, referees, our financial affairs, our registration status, whether we should have dispensation to prepare for a European final, anti Irish bias, anti Celtic bias, anti Catholic bias - the list is huge. How sweet it is that they are now reflecting on the wisdom of the old saying "People in glass houses shouldn't throw stones." They have also found this out in relation to the Offensive Behaviour at Football and Threatening Communications (Scotland) Act. Of course, the land deals around that whole area stink to high heavens. I'm just surprised that it has taken this long to get this moving. Interesting is that if the EC are involved, the authorities here will certainly not want egg on their faces, nor be dragged into this as not having investigated it. That includes Police Scotland if any law has been broken. I'll be interested to see what the media make of this one. If they ignore it, there's clear proof of pro-Celtic bias in the media.
Steve1872 4
Chris Jack Chris_Jack89 Celtic statement on reports of EC investigation into land deals: By: Newsroom Staff on 08 Jan, 2014 18:03 IN response to stories in today’s media concerning Celtic, the club has released the following statement. ‘Celtic Football Club operates to the highest standards and with the utmost integrity. At a time when the Club is committed to investing in and improving areas around Celtic Park, not only for Celtic supporters but for the benefit of the local community, it is sad that these baseless accusations have been raised with the European Commission. ´Any suggestion that Celtic has been the beneficiary of state aid is preposterous - as ludicrous as any suggestion that we have benefited from soft loans from our bankers. The historic transactions referred to were negotiated with the Council on commercial terms at market rates. ´The Club will assist the Commission fully with the process and will not be deterred from our work to improve our local area.´
andy steel 0
Sounds like the kind of thing Whyte used to come out with.

andy steel 0
I will admit I thought this was mere internet bollocks, but their response suggests someone, somewhere has hit a nerve. Look at the language: 'the highest standards'...'the utmost integrity'...'preposterous'...'ludicrous'. As usual, Shakespeare got there first: methinks they doth protest too much. Add to that the sneaky deflection of inquiry into celtc's activities into criticism of whatever it is they are doing for 'their' area ('the Club is committed to investing in and improving areas around Celtic Park'...'will not be deterred from our work to improve our local area'), so that anyone asking questions becomes a party to the retardation of Glasgow's regeneration. Stinks of the late R.M.Nixon's strategy over Watergate...let's hope it's about as successful. A most unconvincing and interesting response from the usually unflappable celtc press office. Quite frankly, if that hysterical hyperbole had come from Whyte or the Easdales no-one would have been surprised.
TheWee BlueDevil 0
Can't get too exited yet. They seem to get away with everything.Sadly I have to agree. They seem to be Teflon-coated. Also they have many influential friends/fans in high places. Anyhow, here's hoping something comes of this.

Darthter 542
Keep in mind, that this appears to be getting investigated from 2 fronts.... 1 - There is the Euro Commission which is investigating other clubs for dodgy deals/State Aid 2 - The Gov enquiry into the banks lending & close links with the Labour party etc While the Gov enquiry doesn't involve Ceptic directly, it does involve the banks dealings with them. If it is found that the bank were "naughty", it wouldn't look at all good with the Euro Commission.... The big question being.....Does Liewell/Ceptic have the connections etc to sweep both investigations under the carpet - methinks they will need a bigger carpet!!!
JTP 0
So the club is ran with the utmost "integrity" huh ................. I'm sure a few schoolboys back in the Stein days would disagree.
