.......three years after causing referee row that led to strikes

MCDONALD has been instated as a Development Officer at Hampden after his 2010 Tannadice blunder forced him to quit the game completely.

Former refereee McDonald is back at the SFA, three years after quitting amidst Tannadice row

CONTROVERSIAL former referee Dougie McDonald is back working for the SFA as a Development Advisor.

McDonald quit as a Category One whistler in November 2010 after coming under intense pressure for lying to Neil Lennon about changing his mind on a penalty he had initially awarded to Celtic against Dundee United at Tannadice.

The aftermath of that shook the game to its core and the incident resulted in his assistant referee that afternoon, Steven Craven, resigning.

Weeks later refs chief Hugh Dallas also quit the SFA and the whistlers went on strike as they felt they weren’t protected enough by their Hampden employers.

On the day he stood down, McDonald claimed Category One refs had been treated in an “outrageous way” and blasted the SFA for a “lack of support”.

Such an attack would normally lead to someone being banished from Hampden but McDonald is back on board.

The 48-year-old is highly rated and referee chiefs feel his input and advice to young officials will be invaluable.

Are the rhecord seriously blaming Dougie and not Lennon for the strike?

Of course!,you don't expect any other explanation do you?.

Also this quote

''Weeks later refs chief Hugh Dallas also quit the SFA and the whistlers went on strike as they felt they weren’t protected enough by their Hampden employers''.

is hiding the truth!

McDonald was one of our top referees and widely viewed as a "go to" man for derby games and refereed 4 cup finals. He was on the FIFA list for 11 seasons and officiated at more than 100 international matches. You cannot buy that kind of experience.

He made a big mistake in the Dundee Utd v Celtic game and compounded it by lying afterwards and shamefully put the linesman in an impossible postion; all of which I am sure he deeply regrets. It cost him his career as a referee.

But I see no issue with the SFA using his vast experience as a Development Advisor for younger referees. I am sure that the the first thing he will say in any lecture is let my mistakes be an example to you all.

I thought Dallas was forced out for making a joke about the pope

He lost his job after forwarding an e-mail he had received, in which a sardonic link was made between the Catholic church and child abuse.

This of course resulted in 'outrage' from the Catholic church and a man considered by FIFA to be one of the world's top officials was forced to resign.

Coincidently Dallas was the referee at the 1999 shame game at parkhead where 3 celtic players were sent off, celtic fans invaded the field, celtic fans hurled coins and other missiles at officials and Rangers players - for all of which Dallas was held responsible by Celtic FC.

Coincidently Dallas was the subject of a pyschological report commissioned by, wait for it....Celtic FC

Coincidently Dallas' home was attacked by fans of, you guessed it.... Celtic FC

Coinicidently dallas was a leading figure in the events surrounding the referees strike caused by the disreputable behaviour of, ah, c'mon this is too easy.... Celtic FC

One can't help wondering about the level of outrage expressed by the Catholic church about the forwarding of a satirical e-mail by a man with no public role nor any public influence.

One can't help wondering why the Catholic church was only outraged by Dallas forwarding this e-mail and not by the tens of thousands of other people who will have received and forwarded it.

One can't help wondering why the Catholic church failed to show similar outrage, at the decades of criminality, child abuse and paedophilia perpetrated by its priests.
