pete 2,499
Full-back Phil Bardsley has cut short his loan spell at Rangers and is set for a brief return to Manchester United. The 21-year-old, who has made 17 first-team appearances for United, was originally loaned to Rangers at the start of the season. Bardsley was due to stay until the end of December, with the possibility of extending that deal incorporated in the original terms of the deal, but he is now poised to join Sunderland. Despite impressing during his first few weeks with Rangers, the 21-year-old fell out with coach Paul Le Guen at the club's training ground in October. There was little prospect of him playing any part in Rangers' Bank of Scotland Premier League match against St Mirren on Saturday, prompting the move to end his stay with the Glasgow giants three days early. Bardsley made seven appearances for the Ibrox side, scoring once and receiving a red card in September's defeat at Hibernian. Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson last week confirmed that United had agreed to send Bardsley to Coca-Cola Championship side Sunderland, with Old Trafford colleague Johnny Evans another possible Roy Keane recruit at the Stadium of Light. He seemed like a good prospect in the begining but it just seemed to cave in after his bust-up with le Guen.
Whosthedado 1,670
I think he'll do OK wherever he ends up. Not sure he'll be good enough to get into Utd's first team. Not the worst player to wear a Rangers shirt
bluekont 0
Does anyone know if Lee Martin is still on loan?
Guest buts
Bardsley, very good player, far better than Hutton, PLG took issue with him tackling in training, and that was his lot.
ascender 352
Didn't realise he'd made so few appearances. As the season has gone on, I don't think we've missed him that much, Hutton has improved a hell of a lot this year and I don't think our full back positions are much of a problem in the scheme of things. Distribution and the final ball needs to be worked on, but we have much bigger problems to sort out first.
craig 5,199
Bardsley, very good player, far better than Hutton, Disagree. Just because he came from Man U doesn't make him any better - he was no better than average for us.
Jon 0
Tend to agree with you there Craig. I think Hutton is the better player, possibly because Bardsley never got the chance to show what he could do even after a promising start
bigholly 0
Does anyone know if Lee Martin is still on loan? According to BBC website he will return to UTD in January.
ascender 352
Does anyone know if Lee Martin is still on loan? I heard he's gone back to Man Yoo as well, but I could be wrong. Kind of academic though, if he's not gone already, it can only be a matter of days.
Gribz 825
Bardsley is going to Sunderland for the rest of the season. Not really a miss for us. He was ok but nothing spectacular. Hutton still has potential and played well against Celtic recently but id rather see a new signing at RB TBH unless he plays like that every week
