Colin Kingsnorth - Laxey Partners

Recommended Posts

A hedge fund does not give a fuck about youth development, supporter safety or wellbeing, players, managers, victories or glory. It only cares about money and it really doesn't mind how it creates it.

Quite so. These people are only interested in one thing. Making money quickly - and I stress the second part of that.

They are not interested in making money slowly; they are not interested in a solid, stable and profitable future; they only want to make a fast buck and then slither off to find their next victim.

If Laxey and their allies get control of the club, the past couple of years may turn out to be regarded as the good old days.

Adding my 2 cents, knowing the Laxey people from the business/property side here in Eastern Europe:

Laxey is usually investing and holding shares in companies through several Isle of Man based vehicles: The Value Catalyst Fund plc, LP Value Ltd, LP Alternative Fund LP, to name a few.

Laxey is the main shareholder of and therefore the owner of Celtic Asset Management, through these same vehicles (link here: http://www.celtic.pl/en/investor-relations/company-info/shareholder-structure )

It is well known that Laxey's strategy is to put as many Board Members as possible in the companies they target (without always disclosing their links with the "independent board members" they push to be appointed), in order to pressure the company's management to implement short term changes to create short term value creation, often through speculation and, of course, without any interest in the long term viability of the companies they attack. The typical "financial activist" agenda.
