ian1964 10,721
SCOT GARDINER turned down his dream job as Rangers chief executive because he didn’t receive assurances he would be allowed to call the shots at Ibrox. The Dundee chief had been given 24 hours to decide whether or not to take the role, as revealed in Record Sport, and yesterday at breakfast time he confirmed to his American bosses he will not be jumping ship to Glasgow. It is understood that Gardiner made up his mind after a number of telephone discussions with the Rangers board on Wednesday during which he asked for a mandate to make the changes he feels are necessary. Rangers sources say Gardiner wanted absolute authority to hire and fire inside the boardroom as well as control over who runs Gers’ PR machine. In the end Gardiner, who faced the possibility of being booted out just weeks into the job if the current regime loses next month’s agm battle, was not satisfied with the answers he received. The 48-year-old refused to comment after turning down a role that has been vacant since last month when Craig Mather followed predecessor Charles Green out of Ibrox. But Dundee director of football operations John Nelms was delighted to announce his man is staying for the long haul. Nelms said: “We’ve been keeping pretty quiet about this but we are all very happy Scot is staying. “We are nine weeks into a long-term plan and he is very much part of it. We’ve also been working on stability at the club over the past nine weeks and are making progress. “Scot staying helps to maintain that. He is very well respected so it comes as no surprise that other clubs want him.” It is believed Dens team boss John Brown strongly advised close friend Gardiner against going. Brown has been one of the Ibrox board’s most outspoken critics. But yesterday the former Rangers player simply said: “I’m glad Scot is still CEO of Dundee. He brought the American investment in here and he’s a great lad.” http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/dundee-chief-scot-gardiner-turns-2793663

Bluedell 5,624
Would a Chief Executive ever be given authority to remove Directors? I could see a Chief Exec coming in and removing executive directors who were not up to the task, but probably not non-execs.
