ian1964 10,826
ANDY LITTLE will have corrective surgery today after it was confirmed he has broken his right cheekbone and his jaw. The striker was hurt in the first half of last night’s 3-1 League One victory over Dunfermline Athletic at Ibrox. Little collided with away full-back Alex Whittle as he stooped low to head a David Templeton cross goalwards in the early stages of the game. After receiving treatment on the park for around six minutes, he was taken off on a stretcher by paramedics wearing a neck brace. The Northern Ireland international was then transported to the Southern General Hospital a mile along the road from the stadium by ambulance and assessed further. Manager Ally McCoist went straight to visit the 24-year-old as soon as he was able to after full-time and when he arrived it wasn’t good news. Little has severe swelling on the right side of his face and will be operated on this morning as he prepares for a lengthy period of time on the sidelines. His injuries weren’t thought to be as bad as those suffered by Spaniard forward Francisco Sandaza last season in the immediate aftermath of the incident which ended his game. But the Murray Park youth product will most likely be out for a similar length of time and it will be next year before he is expected to play again. That’s a blow both for the player personally and for Gers, who have benefitted from six of his goals so far this campaign. That follows a haul of 25 last term in a 51-goal partnership with captain Lee McCulloch and that sort of form has prompted preliminary discussions about a new contract. McCulloch himself sustained a blow to head after a piercing elbow from away player Jordan Moore, who was booked for his challenge and later sent off. The skipper had to go off for treatment as well and was out of the game for 12 minutes, receiving six stitches before coming back on seconds after Little went down. In addition, right-back Richard Foster left Ibrox on crutches after a clumsy tackle on him by Pars stopper Callum Morris. He has hurt his ankle but there is a lot of swelling around it and the club’s medical staff will have to wait until that subsides before they can determine the specific nature of his injury. http://www.rangers.co.uk/news/headlines/item/5502-andy-set-for-surgery
