Guest Night Owl
From the NHS website. Motor neurone disease is the name for a rare condition where parts of the nervous system become damaged. This causes progressive weakness, usually with muscle wasting.Motor neurone disease occurs when specialist nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord called motor neurones stop working properly. Motor neurones control important muscle activity, such as: gripping walking speaking swallowing breathing As the condition progresses, people with motor neurone disease will find these activities increasingly difficult – and eventually impossible – to do. Exactly what causes motor neurones to stop working properly is unclear, but there is not currently thought to be a link with factors such as race, diet and lifestyle. In about 5% of cases there is a family history of either motor neurone disease or a related condition called frontotemporal dementia. In most of these cases faulty genes have been identified as contributing to the condition. There is no single test to diagnose motor neurone disease and diagnosis is based mainly on the opinion of a neurologist. Sometimes specialised tests are needed to rule out other possible conditions. I'm sure some Bears will get something organized and we can get behind the guy and let him know we're with him the whole way. A hot head at times but the season where he knuckled down and got some work done is fondly remembered, some good goals to. Take it easy fella and all the best.
andy steel 0
Seems like the last person on earth who would be affected by that kind of disease, motor hyperactivity would seem more likely. All the best to Nando, mad loon that he was.

craig 5,199
I have lost TWO cousins to this disease and they were both very active people. THAT is the worst of it, for active people this is an incredibly difficult disease to deal with. Both cousins had passed away within 4 years of contracting the disease and it was awful to see them deteriorate from sound physical individuals to physical invalid in such a short space of time. Awful, awful news for ANYONE, but particularly one of our own. Wishing you well Fernando, keep fighting it in the hopes a cure can be found sooner rather than later.
26th of foot 6,179
MND is a progressive neurological disorder. It has claimed a fair few footballers. Sam English, Jimmy Johnstone, and Stefano Borganovo to name three. Medical studies in Italy have drawn a correlation between football and MND, seven times more likely in professional players. Fernando has a truly awful journey ahead, most sad.
