Former Celtic chairman Brian Quinn’s UEFA financial role

Former Celtic chairman Brian Quinn has been appointed to the new UEFA group which will decide on whether clubs comply with the governing body’s licensing and financial fair play regulations.

 

A former deputy governor of the Bank of England, Quinn, 75, was chairman of Celtic from 2000 to 2007. He is to become a member of the Investigatory Chamber of the UEFA Club Financial Control Body (CFCB).

 

Quinn’s initial appointment is until June 2015, which means that he would be unlikely to be involved in judging any future application by Rangers to be allowed to return to European football as the club’s liquidation debars them for three years.

 

UEFA also announced yesterday that they will stage an under-19 Champions League competition from next year and that they will give a special award to the fans of the Republic of Ireland for their behaviour at Euro 2012.

Every time they talk about Quinn being a former deputy governor of the Bank of England, they invariably fail to mention that he was the man who was asleep at the wheel when the BCCI fraud was unfolding.

Brian Quinn was also standing at the side of the stage, clapping his hands in the Clanrhee Hotel, Donegal, as Sellik stars, Hartson and Pearson bellowed a ditty lionising the IRA.

 

Of course, Peter Lawwell dismissed the video footage of the club Chairman enthusiastically contributing stage right, "as £30 of software".
