the gunslinger 3,366
"The effective sentence, as confirmed in the agreement, is a fine of R3 280 000.00 or 984 months (82 years) imprisonment." Seems to me that the prospect of 82 years in jail was quite serious. Sure but it's what happens if he doesn't pay the fine not the other way round.
BrahimHemdani 1
The criminal charges against King were dropped. If he was not convicted of a criminal offence why did he have to "pay to the Criminal Assets Recovery Account ("CARA") the amount of R8.75 million as contemplated in section 64(e) of Act 121 of 1998" in addition to the " fine of R3 280 000.00 or 984 months (82 years) imprisonment." The Act 121 of 1998 is the South Africa Prevention of Organised Crime Act.

the gunslinger 3,366
Well its reflective of his non payment and he's very very rich. The jail time is clearly a formula based on the fine.

We're slowly in danger of agreeing again GS "a fine of R80 000.00 or 24 months' imprisonment on each of the 41 counts," If we keep agreeing the dinner ain't going to be much fun

I have been married to the wife for 26 years The 82 years prison would have been much easier.

pete 2,499
Yes but how much was the alternative in alimony? A hell of a lot of money. The law of marriage is: When married the man strips the woman's clothes out. when divorced the woman strips the man of everything.
