Sunderland Waste No Time - Di Canio SACKED!

Recommended Posts

Having looked them up on Wikipedia, it seems they were a top side until the mid fifties and then went into decline. They had a mini-resurgence around the same time as the new stadium was built in the late 90's. They were at their lowest when I started giving them attention in the mid to late 80's due to having a friend who supported them.

It must be something in the north east in general. There is never shortage of drama and all 3 clubs have been in messes. Middleboro seemed the most sensible out of the 3 at one point and were a good established Premier League team for a while but they are really poor at the moment in the Championship.

Newcastle are a soap opera.

Sunderland have a terrific set up and one of the best stadiums in the country, but any manager who goes there cant make them a decent team never mind a force despite being backed financially. Only 7th placed finishes by Peter Reid where they once decent.

Admin - please move this to the thread already started in football chat.

I know it isn't Rangers but I really wanted to post that headline. Admin chop & accept my apology if I have misjudged.

No problem Steve, but I've merged your thread into the one which was started last night here in Footie Chat.

Gus Poyet is the favourite. Would be interesting to see how he does in the top flight.

Out of the other contenders I think Tony Pulis would keep them up although Im sure the Sunderland fans wouldn't be excited by the prospect of Pulis.

Zola and Di Matteo would steady things and it would help with the Italian background to get on with staff and the few Italian players they have.

Big Eck would inject good morale but I would still see them in a relegation fight.
