26th of foot 6,114
FURIOUS Dundee United are set to go to war with TV chiefs over Gavin Gunning’s SFA ban. The Irishman, lost his appeal against a three-game suspension for kicking out at Celtic incident, while STV held an online debate on the skirmish. The Tangerines believe that is what prompted SFA compliance officer Vince Lunny to hammer defender Gunning. They reckon Celtic pair Scott Brown and Joe Ledley were let off with offences because TV didn’t highlight them. Now United could deny the Beeb and STV access to Jackie McNamara and his squad. A Tannadice source said: “We’ve no problem with players being punished if they are in the wrong, but we can’t accept the inconsistency. “There were other incidents in the Celtic game which were not highlighted by broadcasters and they have gone unpunished. “To us it looks like the broadcasters are the ones who decide who gets called up and who doesn’t. “If the SFA decide what cases will be brought up on the basis of who gets the most coverage, as it seems to be, then the system isn’t fair. “Who is making the decisions — the SFA or the editor of Sportscene? “We’re not the only club uneasy about this.” Last season, former St Johnstone manager Steve Lomas claimed Lunny was too reliant on the BBC for his charge sheet, while Motherwell’s Stuart McCall voiced similar concerns. Amazing! Bears bang on for several years about the influence of both Editors and Producers at BBC Scotland, and it is ignored. It's the principle we scream; however, it cannot be heard for the cacophony of sniggers. Highlighting the discretions of ra Sellik's opposition whilst downplaying/ignoring the transgressions of the green'n'grey. It effects Dundee United and suddenly the sniggering stops.
der Berliner 3,803
Trial by Sportscene has been happening to us for years now, nothing new!. Yeah, the thing is that many folk (as we have seen last year) do not take an objective view on somesuch, up until it happens to them. Then the gnashing of teeth begins ... and e.g. we should suddenly shed a tear of sympathy. NB: To shoot down any claims of paranoia, it would be good to check out how many of these cases have been done by Sportscene/STV et al, with incidents of the opposition (who were?) being ignored. Facts rule, you know. Edited September 6, 2013 by der Berliner
andy steel 0
What would be even more interesting would be a breakdown by club of players & managers who have been cited since Mr Lunny took office. No prizes for guessing who'll be right at the arse end of that table.
