Scotland squad to face Belgium and Macedonia

Gordon Strachan has named a 27-player squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Belgium and Macedonia.

 

Glasgow-born Ikechi Anya (Watford) has been called-up for the first time. The versatile 25-year-old has become a mainstay in Gianfranco Zola’s side since signing from Granada on loan in 2012, and later sealing a permanent deal.

 

There are various changes amongst the forwards with Jamie Mackie (Nottingham Forest) and Ross McCormack (Leeds United) recalled to the squad, while Kenny Miller has announced his retirement from international football.

 

Kilmarnock goalkeeper Craig Samson has also been recalled, with Allan McGregor suspended for the first match against Belgium.

I can see it being a long time before a Rangers player is picked in a Scotland squad again. Levein kind of started the excuses and Strachan now doesn't have to pick any, although Wallace would be the only obviously choice at the moment. And now Scotland are actually playing well with 2 decent games Strachan uses that as a reason.

 

Its pretty ironic considering Hutton isn't kicking a ball at club level!

First I've heard about Miller retiring. Least he went out with a peach against "them".

 

Good to see him get one last goal like that and then walk away. Miller is getting on a bit, but so it's time the slightly younger strikers (or MUCH younger in the case of Rhodes) get a proper chance.
