You're sounding slightly melodramatic. Legal disputes are rarely black and white, there are often faults on both sides, Even the strongest case can go pear shaped when it comes before the guy in the red jersey. Sensible parties will usually seek a compromise and the settlement figure will reflect the relative strength of the parties position. Without knowing the amounts involved it's impossible for anyone to say who was the winner and who was the loser in this situation.
