CRAIG MATHER has assured Rangers fans the club is living within its means and revealed the first-team playersâ?? wage bill is currently lower than it was last season.

The new chief executive has spoken of restructuring at the Light Blues which is designed to give the Ibrox outfit a more sustainable business model to follow.

That extends as far as Ally McCoistâ??s squad, where Mather is willing to add more new faces as long as certain salaries are removed from the pool as well.

Highly-paid Carlos Bocanegra and Dorin Goian recently agreed to end their contracts early and that came at a cost.

But the likes of Neil Alexander, Francisco Sandaza and Kevin Kyle are amongst those to have moved on too and that makes for an overall saving.

Some supporters have expressed concern about the volume of new recruits McCoist has been allowed to bring in, with many assuming extra cash is being spent.

But Mather is adamant itâ??s simply the case that the budget provided is being worked well and is keen to stress thereâ??s no reason to panic.

He said: â??People are talking about the signings we have made and weâ??ve agreed deals to bring in seven players so far but in comparison to last yearâ??s wage bill, itâ??s less this season.

â??Yes, weâ??re bringing more people in but weâ??ve worked hard to ensure from a financial perspective weâ??re living within our means.

â??Weâ??re bringing in the right players at the right price but donâ??t get me wrong, weâ??ve got some more work to do as well.

â??Alistair is more than aware some of the players will need to move on and he wants to bring more in.

â??Iâ??d like to think we can maybe do a bit more shopping in pre-season and perhaps bring in one or two new faces but thereâ??s potential for a couple to move on too.

â??We are working hard to create a financially-sound structure which we can build foundations on.

â??This football club has been through a torrid time and itâ??s very difficult, unless you do it now, to restructure.

â??Once you gather momentum and you go back through the leagues, your wage bill grows. We have to make structural changes now and we are doing that.â?

Mather is in Germany for this eveningâ??s pre-season friendly with FC Gutersloh at the Heidewaldstadion in North Rhine-Westphalia.

He travelled to Germany with chairman Walter Smith yesterday and went straight into lengthy discussions with boss McCoist about the future for the club last night.

In the months ahead, Rangers will play in the third tier of Scottish football as they continue their journey back to the top of the game.

And talks were very much aimed at how best to go about trying to become domestic champions once more and progressing into the European arena from there in the long run.

Mather, speaking on RangersTV, added: â??We had a long chat yesterday and weâ??ve talked again this morning.

â??Even on the flight over here, Walter and I spoke literally non-stop about ideas and the three of us had a number of hours together last night.

â??We were talking about the existing structure, my relationship with Walter and Alistair and ensuring we all have the same vision, which we do. It was very productive.

â??Our vision is to get the club back winning leagues on a regular basis and playing in Europe and the biggest thing we established last night is how we go about doing that.

â??The Champions League is the pinnacle of football and we need to be able to compete at that top level but with the knowledge weâ??re financial security.â?

This is a common saying in old gilead where the gunslinger is from. I can remove it if you like?

wishing you long days and plesant nights.

Why not put it under your nick name? It gets tiring reading the same signature over and over and interrupts the flow of the thread.

I think it will fall a lot further perhaps as low as 20 odd pence before a serious party emerges.

Yep, it needs to drop to a fair price. Guy's like Dave King and other interested parties may well be quite wealthy, but they're not daft.

Yeah, if you could remove it please, that would be great. Having a signature type thing as part of your actual posts is just confusing and cluttering.
