After Nike and Adidas it is probably the third biggest football brand around. Rudi Dassler started the Puma company after splitting up with his brother Adi in 1948. A family argument in the “Gebrüder Dassler Schuhfabrik” made Rudi started his own sportswear company. Initially with the name RuDa it soon used the current iconic Puma brand name. Like Adidas the Puma factory is situated in Herzogenaurach (Germany). Puma became a big football brand in the 70s and 80s. In later years their rivals Adidas and especially Nike dominated the football market for kits and boots. Since 2007 Puma is owned by the French company PRR (Pinault-Printemps-Redoute), a French multinational holding company with a worldwide brand portfolio in luxury, sports & lifestyle. That is like saying that Hearts (or pick another Scottish club) and saying they are part of the big 3. We all know Scottish football consists of them and us (the big 2) and the rest. The reality is that being 3rd biggest doesnt mean there is a big 3, it could mean there is a big 2 and the 3rd biggest is much smaller. However, Puma are still twice the size of Umbro.....which has to be a positive thing.
