All four players have agreed pre-contract deals at Ibrox and last week the SFA and the SFL gave them the green light to appear as trialists. However, the signing embargo placed on Rangers last year means the players can’t be registered with the SFA until September 1 – and the PFA has warned they’ll be taking a gamble if they agree to play before then. The union fears they may not be covered if they sustain a serious injury. Former Hibs and Livingston midfielder Stuart Lovell, now Player Liaison officer with the PFA, claims most pre-contracts are worthless. Jon Daly is unveiled as Rangers' latest signing SNS He said: “If they have it in writing that an injury won’t affect their contractual status then I’d say they’re fine. “But players must be 100 per cent sure they have written assurances that their agreements will be honoured should they get injured. “And, in the case of the Rangers lads, I would say that – if they don’t have these guarantees – then they should wait until September 1 before it’s safe for them to play.” The union points out that there is a precedent for a pre-contract arrangement being ripped up with Slask Wroclaw centre-half Jaroslaw Fojut losing out on his three-year deal with Celtic last year after damaging his knee. Lovell added: “People say clubs won’t renege on pre-contract agreements but Celtic did just that with a player from Poland. “FIFA also don’t recognise trialists. I don’t know of any other league outside Scotland that allows unregistered individuals to play. “Pre-contracts are a legal can of worms. I guess this is what the PFA should be advising and I would further guess that the cost of providing them with insurance that was legally binding would be both difficult and prohibitively expensive. And just anti Rangers media coverage. Seriously, these cretins would like us to beg to join their table? There's a turn of phrase involving "where the sun don't shine" that comes to mind. We did play a few of our new signings back then and no-one talked about it? This, IMHO is a neat Dhaily Rhecord (Scum-driven?) stunt to thwart our enthusiasm about all these signings. As I said elsewhere, did either the Rhecord or the PFA check what happened to other trialists who were in the same boat with other clubs? Was someone injured and then not signed up in trialists games in Scotland before? If we or other teams trial players normally (checking them out) and they get injured, what's the rules there? Never mind that he was a useless player who never turned up for us, he let himself and the Club down by his ill-advised interview with the taxi driver. He didn't ever deserve to wear the jersey. I would imagine that that is standard advice. Obviously anything attached to Rangers hits the media I don't think we would want it any other way. You probably did not get (or took not up on) my point. The rules were there last season (and probably before last season too), trialists have always been used and were most likely insured anyway. Maybe I am wrong but we did play e.g. Black in trial games, so there is a precedent. The point is that this is all known, has happened before and no-one really bothered. But now that we are signing players galore, "suddenly" the Dhaily Rhecord sees it fit to ask some chap from the PFA and splashes this "ifs and buts and mabys" headline on their Sunday edition, targetting us.
