Stevie Smith - 2 Year Deal

Recommended Posts

I don't see how we could ever be in a position in our current situation to have a great chance of winning a cup. We really can't compete with Celtic and if they slip up there is usually an SPL club or two who are on a great winning streak and they are clubs who we will be able to compete with but not find beating them very easy.

Hearts have had our budget or more for years and not won much, Aberdeen have been more often than not been empty handed when spending "relatively" a lot more. Look what Advocaat won with the team with the biggest financial advantage in Scottish history in his third season.

Over a season, in the SPL, I'd fancy us to finish in the top four with our current squad, with a good shout for second. But the cups are a different matter, something we should all know, and there are teams that will also raise their game against us as they see their chance of a famous win and revenge for all the drubbings we've given them.

You expect to consistently win cups by being in the best two by a huge margin, having a slightly more expensive squad put together during a transfer embargo guarantees very little.

The top priority, by light years, is to win the league and gain promotion.

As has been said, we have no real cover at LB, Mitchell was utilized there IMHO out of need. I wouldn't be surprised if someone is interested in Wallace and we will most likely not stand in his way should this come to pass. He's more than done his job for us and shown tremendous loyalty.

Smith ... experienced campaigner now and as far as I heard, the Portland folk were far more impressed by him than Boyd, were rather sad to see him go (most likely because of wages et al). As with any other newcomer, I'll give him his time to prove himself.

Poor signing for me, may as well get Mo Ross. Smith struggled at Aberdeen and if full of injuries. Id rather a solid full back who plays 36 games from Div 1 or Div 2 as back up. But if he gets fit then lets see.

Wallace can play cb.

While s smith was at one time my favorite player I do worry about our spending and this seems frivolous.

As in, Wallace for CB and Smith as "LB" and Faure "RB" in a 3-man defence? Sounds good to me.

We need to look at the signings as a whole once things settle down post 1 September. Key will be who else leaves.

Although we've brought in a few new players, who's to say that we don't get rid of one or two of those on higher wages and that we end up with a better squad which actually costs less than season 2012/13's?

The wages we are no longer paying to Kyle, Sandaza and Alexander alone should easily cover the wages for Daly, Clark, Bell, Law and Smith. I know who I'd prefer to have.

In defence we leaked like a sieve with a back 4 and 2 holding mids, occasionally a back 5 - against 1 part timer up top. Being the might of Stirling and Annan at that!

If we go with a back 3, may the Lord help us.
