Dunfermline Athletic handed signings punishment for administration

Recommended Posts

Dunfermline Athletic will not be fined by the Scottish FA for going into administration.

However the East End Park club have been banned from signing new players older than 21, until December 31 this year.

The punishment was handed out to Dunfermline at a hearing at Hampden on Thursday.

Administrator Bryan Jackson of BDO represented the club in front of the SFA.

Mr Jackson said the club would not be appealing the decision.

"I think the outcome was a fair one and one we can accept," he told STV. "There was no fine imposed. Our circumstances are quite different and that was taken into account.

"We were given a fair hearing in terms of mitigating factors surrounding our own situation. We are fairly pleased with the outcome.

"We appreciate the SFA have to follow their rules and we couldn't escape with no sanction."

Dunfermline lost the first leg of their relegation semi-final to Forfar Athletic on Wednesday night, putting them in danger of relegation to the Second Division.

"It obviously wouldn't help it going down a division and that would have its own implications," Jackson added.

"But we wouldn't expect it to affect the sale as the most likely people to take over the club are made up of supporters. We would expect they would still want to do so.

"Talks are ongoing and progressing. Obviously events last night don't tend to help the mood but we can lift our heads up and look at moving positively.

"We are continuing our talks. I would say although there has been some other interest, no material interest has come to the fore as yet."
