County Could Block SPL Revamp

Recommended Posts

Ross County look set to vote against league reconstruction after todayâ??s board meeting to further discuss the new 12-12-18 plans.

Staggies chairman Roy MacGregor has no reason to believe the clubâ??s supporters, board and management will change their minds after their opposition to the proposals after a supportersâ?? forum in February.

While Highland rivals Caley Thistle will vote for the new set-up, it is expected County will join St Mirren in rejecting the plans. An 11-1 majority vote is needed for the fresh structure to be approved.

MacGregor will not comment about the outcome of todayâ??s board meeting before the SPL vote on the new plans at Hampden on Monday.

The only reply MacGregor should give to the other chairmen of the SPL is: You lot decided to ruin the Scottish set-up by forfeiting your board's power and as a result voted Rangers FC of the SPL last summer. You dug your own grave by letting the fans decide and now you scorn these very fans' decicision for the sake of your own self-interest.

Where are the supporters of the other SPL sides, btw? Are they all agreeing to the 12-12-18 stuff? Are they even bothered? Ain't this as great a fun as kicking Rangers out of the league?

Other team supporters notably Hivs, Dundee Scum, Scum, Sheeprapers and Hearts, see it as a way of keeping us in the lower tier's for longer, they will urge other clubs to vote for that and reconstruction or deconstruction of us.

I don't think all the clubs are listening to their fans on this vote. The majority of fans want a bigger league and no split, I don't think many even understand the 8/8/8 split rubbish!!

It's clubs like Dundee Utd and Aberdeen who only last year swore by listening to their fans/customers to punish us severely who are now blanking them and doing what they want! This would put Scottish football back years more than what we have already IMO, not many or any fans want this and the crowds would get even less than they are now, along with sponsorship and TV money which will dwindle rapidly.

Any club who thinks it could be borderline for postions 9-12 int he SPL should be voting no to this reconstruction.

How can they possibly sell season tickets, still an absolutely essential part of the club's finances and cashflow, when they dont know what league almost half of their fixtures will be in? The only possible option clubs will have (and frankly this should be every club apart from celtic) will be to try to sell season tickets for the 11 home games pre-split, and then try to sell the remainder. Not only will this lead to a huge drop in cashflow in the vital barren summer period but for those clubs who dont make the top 8, it will lead to an almost certain drop off in tickets sold as they are then doomed to scrap for one of 4 places to remain in the upper league for the first half of the following season.

Any additional (but not proven ) suggested income from tv or sponsorship deals through the SPL will not account for the loss in supporter ticket sales over a season when considering hospitality packages, programmes, pies, club shop sales etc that larger numbers of ST supporters will drive. And that is before those private figures are analysed properly to see if in fact there is even a hope of an increase which seems to most observers are extremely unlikely.

The ironic thing is that they are fully using the 11-1 voting system in order to block an 11-1 voting system...

Welcome back Cal. :)

You are right, the non OF clubs have complained about this system for years as it meant Rangers and Celtic can pretty much control things with how they vote, now when it suits the rest they are pressing ahead with pressure on Ross County and St Mirren
