Bluedell 5,627
While we feel ashamed of Green for his words, do we also feel the shame for us when the rest of Scotland calls us e.g. Huns and we fail to act in any way to defend ourselves and the club? Shame? No. Frustration? Yes.
GovanAllan 0
Interesting you should mention that as I think it's the lines that Green was thinking along at the time. He was just finished talking about having no issue with signing players whatever their background and this led onto â??The sectarian element of the Old Firm has been a hard thing to get used to. That is something that Iâ??ve found truly amazing and hugely surprising to find this divide in Scotland. It is a completely new concept to me. I was brought up in a mining community where whether someone was black, white, Catholic, Salvation Army, Protestant, made no difference." This is the context in which he was discussing the use of the words and this section of the interview was even introduced with 'Green insists he hates the growing political correctness that is creeping into society...' Personally, I'd like to see a full transcript of the interview as it appears to me that he was trying to make a point which is actually relevant to Rangers. If this is the case though, Can you imagine the outcry if he'd got straight to the point and used the 'f' word? Getting back to the 'h' word, I think you'd find plenty folk on here wanting action to be taken if a Septic employee used that term in an interview. Jeanette Findlay of the Celtic Trust spends most of her time telling anybody who will listen that Hun is acceptable. The word is used on public broadcast radio nothing is said. We've lost that battle as well.
ian1964 10,724
Charles Green faces second ‘no surrender’ charge By EWING GRAHAME Published on Friday 12 April 2013 00:51 IT HAS emerged that Rangers chief executive Charles Green will face two charges of bringing the game into disrepute. On Wednesday, the Scottish Football Association issued a notice of complaint to the 59-year-old concerning alleged racist language, after he referred to Rangers business partner Imran Ahmad as his “little Paki friend” in a newspaper interview published last Sunday. However, those are not the only comments he will be asked to explain at Hampden on 25 April, with SFA sources last night confirming that he will also be grilled over remarks broadcast on Radio Clyde on Monday, 8 April. In an interview recorded last September but not aired until its appearance on Clyde’s Super Scoreboard programme at the start of this week, Green ended his conversation with reporter Gerry McCulloch by saying: “No surrender.” The phrase is sung by Rangers fans in the Loyalist anthem Derry’s Walls, a song which refers to the Siege of Derry in 1689 and the interview was aired belatedly in order to illustrate Green’s capacity for making ill-advised statements. Meanwhile, on the pitch, Rangers suffered a blow yesterday with the news that winger Barrie McKay will not play again this season after suffering a foot injury during the friendly win over Linfield on Wednesday. McKay came off after 16 minutes of the 2-0 friendly victory and will see a specialist in London early next week to gauge the extent of the damage. But Rangers said it “seems certain” that the injury will rule him out of Rangers’ four remaining Irn-Bru Third Division matches. The injury also casts doubt on McKay’s inclusion in the Scotland squad for the Elite Stage of the European Under-19 Championship towards the end of May. http://www.scotsman.com/sport/football/sfl-division-three/charles-green-faces-second-no-surrender-charge-1-2891991?utm_medium=twitter&utm_source=twitterfeed
Blue Moon 1,293
What is that all about? Recorded in September and aired now? Charlie Green shouldn't have said it, it is not exactly the conduct of a CEO. That aside, is this a banned song? If it isn't, it is time to make a stand. I don't sing these songs but on grounds of equality and freedom of speech, it is time to speak out against this ludicrous law. This is the sort of issue that could unite fans behind Green. McCulloch may have done us a favour.
GovanAllan 0
And so the attack continue, the P word taken out of context to start a witch hunt, and now the Tims show their hand by suddenly claiming No Surrender is sectarian what next WATP. They managed to get TBB banned because we are a spineless bunch wonder if we will fight for Derry's walls, I doubt it.
the gunslinger 3,366
I expect he will win both charges.
aweebluesoandso 290
It's an all out attack on the Protestant and Loyalist culture and heritage simple as, if it was happening to any other minority never mind a majority, there would be marches on Hollyrood possible even civil disturbance, like Lambs to the slaughter though with my community.
the gunslinger 3,366
seems the sfa have seen sense on the no surrender charge.

What? They admit to "set him up" and back this by his "No surrender" comment? Which is part of a song but also a statement by Winston Churchill, a song from Bruce Springsteen and was on the lips of British soldiers dying at the Somme? If they even utter a whisper about it being sectarian, I'd urge the RFFF to sue them like there is no tomorrow. By the looks of it, they've lost the admin/EBT/reco story-battle, and desperately look for some other story to keep them going. I for one would advice Green and Co. to take notes on what is written and said these days and ban the whole lot of them from anything Rangers.
