fraser54 0
Look at the team who are the players who will fight for the team Mcgregor, Smith, Ferguson, Prso, Adam, Novo 4 out of those 6 or scottish I think it's about time we had more scottish/british players in our team instead of some european diddys that can't cut it in Scotland I have in mind like Naismith, Brown , Thomson , Anderson, Healy etc Yes we can have a few forigners but not many. If you look at past succesful Rangers teams they have had mostly Scottish/British based players in the team. Think we should get back to basics with having mostly scottish/british with some people from europe or from else where. Thoughts ?
elderslieblue 0
The reason we don't have more Scots in our football comes from a good number of years ago when the 'experts' decided the Scots weren't good enough on the European / World stage. So foreign managers who were supposed to be 'wiser' were brought in. This led to haddies like Konterman, Ricksen, etc, being imported. The @rse fell out of the coaching side of the game and led to the situation we arrived at recently. No doubt the Scots have 'heart'...............unfortunately, things ain't changed much. We STILL don't have the skill.

Guest Big_Gazza_Mc
alan hutton, chris burke, bob malcolm....3 of a few scot's who could be described as not having this famous "heart". I think its too easy an assumption to say the scottish players have heart and the foreigners on average dont. Nacho Novo and Dado Prso are the typical scottish-foreigners, but just because a player shouts and APPEARS to be more annoyed about results doesn't mean they have more heart. Karl Svensson, Phil Bardsley, Filip Sebo all have heart, doesn't make a blind bit of difference. Look at the big teams, such as.... Inter, they have typically had big name selfish players such as adriano. They dont claim to love the club, always be a supporter or get ragin wen they get beat, but they still do the business and thats all we should care about. Jeremy Clement being the prime example, some fans being shocked that we weren't the climax to his career, obviously this is a stepping stone, and have you seen him play any worse than say, alan hutton? nope To add to this....... These are the Chamions League Results from the 9 in a row season. Recap: 2 foreigner rule (albertz, bjorklund) Grasshopers 3 - 0 Rangers Rangers 1 - 2 Auxerre Ajax 4 - 1 Rangers Rangers 0 - 1 Ajax Rangers 2 - 1 Grasshopers Auxerre 2 - 1 Rangers Finished with 3 Points, SIX points behind the 3rd placed team Grasshopers. You Really wanna have team with the likes of Russel Anderson and Steven Naismith and however many more scottish players? Cos these are exactly the same results you will get. Its no coincidence.
calscot 0
BUT - here's the domestic results for nine in a row: Champions, Champions, Champions, Champions, Champions, Champions, Champions, Champions, Champions. We were also were the third best team in Europe one year and if it wasn't for bribes and the lack of a semi final, we would have had a pretty good chance of winning the CL. I think our lack of results in Europe after that were mostly down to Wattie changing from a solid and succesful 4-4-2 to his disastrous 5-3-2 plus buying the likes of Clelland, Bolan and a few other donkeys that seemed to get in the team every week.
calscot 0
PS It's ironic that it wasn't our 9-in-row years that produced our huge debt, it was the Advocaat years that did that. Although we do have to remember that we spent about 40M on our stadium and 17M on Murray park in that time too.
alanmidd 0
To add to this....... These are the Chamions League Results from the 9 in a row season. Recap: 2 foreigner rule (albertz, bjorklund) there was no foreigner rule in place at this time. When it was in place, it was the 3 foreigners rule

Were we not the 3rd best team in europe at one point but some cheating bribing bassas beat us and went through to the final and won. Also i would rather win the league 9 times in a row than have a good run in Europe our bread and butter is in the league
CammyF 8,131
It isa all relative - we finished 2nd in our CL group (2 groups of 8) with the winners contesting the final - not taking anything away from that great team, but this was when it was the CHAMPIONS league and not the invitation league it is at the moment. As for the initial post regarding signing players like Anderson and Healy, if nothing else, it drives home the 'downsizing' of our ambitions under David Murray. FFS Healy is hardly prolific and is struggling with Leeds at the wrong end of the Championship - Anderson is no better than an average SPL player. The game has moved on from that 9-in-a-row era where we had the best Scottish players complemented with some fantastic imports from Europe and England. Also, its worth noting that for the majority of our 9-in-a-row, Craptic were in a worse state than we are in at the moment. Cammy F
