CHARLES GREEN has called for Rangers to be promoted to the middle tier of Scottish

Recommended Posts

CHARLES GREEN has called for Rangers to be promoted to the middle tier of Scottish football should reconstruction plans be rushed through for the new season.

Under proposals from the SPL that would see a 12-12-18 setup come into force this summer, Rangers would find themselves playing in the bottom division.

If Ally McCoist's side are deprived of promotion, it would render this season virtually meaningless and the Ibrox chief executive insists the Light Blues deserve to move up the league ladder to preserve 'sporting integrity'.

He said: "All things being well, Rangers should win the Third Division title and, that being the case, we should be promoted.

"That should happen regardless of what league structure the powers that be put in place.

"It would be manifestly wrong to deny any team promotion having won the competition they have entered into at the start of the season.

"The principle of promotion and relegation for the clubs which fall into these categories at the end of this season should be enshrined in any new league set up.

"So, if, as widely predicted we end up with a 12-12-18 set up, Rangers should be promoted and this promotion should be to the middle tier.

"There has been no shortage of voices banging on about sporting integrity over the last year but sporting integrity must cut both ways.

"Should that be observed during reconstruction discussions then significant benefits would delivered, particularly to clubs in the middle tier who have yet to reap any financial benefit from us playing in lower divisions."

I really dont think they can restructure things at this stage in a season, any changes have to be at known at the start of a season. I expect us to be in Div 2 next season and then the 12-12-18 starting 2014/15. Should we win Div 2 next season we are then promoted to the SPL 1.

Here lies the next problem which hasnt been discussed not just from Rangers point of view. If they somehow manage to get this 12-12-18 through and in place for next season it has to be transparent all the way. The team who finishes top of Div 2 this season also has to gain promotion. Now what league would they go into? How about the teams in the play offs. If Queens Park win the plays off between the 3 sides in Div 3 and the 1 team from Div 2 they should also earn promotion. That is what they have been playing for all season. Same for Div 2 clubs fighting in the play off spots. Therefore there could be 4 sides (lets say 2 auto promoted and 2 play off winners) earning themselves to a higher league than they currently are in (unless they scrap the play offs which is truely unfair).

With only 1 dropping out of the SPL and 1 going up from Div 1 that would make the 2nd tier having 14 teams unless they force more relegation spots which current Div 1 teams arent going to vote for.

If Rangers go for a legal battle to be promoted then Queen of the South (current Div 2 leaders) and the play off winners must do this also.

There is also the scenario of the teams finishing 2nd bottom of Div 1 and 2 winning the play offs. If they do win the play offs they are going to feel they cant be relegated!

Absolutely balls up of a situation.

As it stands they appear to be proposing that the Div 2 champions and playoff winners will join the championship to make up the 12. You're right about the Div 3 playoff winners though. They'll be in the same boat as us. I'm not sure they'll be complaining though as they probably wouldn't fancy their chances of an invite to the championship anyway.

If it's voted through in time, the playoffs should be scrapped and the 2nd & 3rd Division champions should get the invite. It's harsh on the 2nd Division teams fighting for a playoff spot, but the alternative is worse for the game.

If Dunfermline are liquidated it could make the situation easier to resolve. Knowing Scottish football I doubt it though.

If its Queens Park who win the play offs Im sure they will push for promotion as they could get another 2 home games with Rangers giving them that huge pay out again.

Im sure the sides going for Play offs in Div 2 wont go for it. They will feel they have a chance of promotion and if they won it they'd feel they deserves to be in a league higher than any current Div 3 club.

I never thought of the Dunfermline thing creating an opening for easing up the situation, very convenient! And if Hearts go also and have to start again in the lowest league it solves the problem.

Green is stung by Wasps

ALLOA chairman Mike Mulraney has laughed off Rangers’ demand to be fast-tracked up the leagues.

Charles Green wants the Ibrox club parachuted into the second tier of the proposed 12-12-18 set-up.

Alloa are chasing promotion from the Second Division and Mulraney said: “My reaction is one of mild amusement. Wouldn’t it be lovely if we all got to dictate which league we play in next season?

“Rangers are trying to bat for what is in their interests. They are entitled to put forward their case, I am entitled to ignore it.

“Alloa won the Third Division last season. Does that mean we deserve to go up two leagues? If we win promotion we’d go up on merit. That would be fair.”

Love how they keep using fast track when they talk about us, we aren't the ones calling for the changes, we aren't the ones saying a club who wins its league will still play in the same league.

Shower of corrupt shits the lot of them, I wish we could leave this cesspit and play somewhere else.

The difference between us and folks like Mick Mulraney, Turnbull Hutton and the rest of the of them is that making our opinion known via the media is the only say we've got on the matter.

I'm sure he does find it amusing. He must be loving his 20 seconds in the spotlight as well. He'd better because the next time he's given any attention it might well be because his club's the next to under. He won't feel so smug then will he? Especially not having passed on the oportunity to have a lasting source of revenue at the bottom.

Enjoy getting stuck in the barren 18 team wilderness you're about to give the thumbs up to Mick.

Bottom tier clubs set to reject Charles Green's Old Firm colts cash offer

20 Mar 2013 07:45

A CLUTCH of SFL directors say money being put on the table by the Ibrox owner wouldn't cover costs of putting on games.

BOTTOM tier clubs look set to snub Charles Green’s cash offer to vote Old Firm colt teams into league reconstruction.

The Ibrox owner offered to pay clubs the equivalent of 300 sold tickets – between £3000 and £4000 – every time his young second string side plays away.

The offer was intended as an incentive for current Third Division clubs to deviate from the current proposal for a new 18-team bottom tier in favour of two leagues of 10, with Rangers and Celtic colts making up the numbers.

But the message from a clutch of SFL directors is a resounding no, with Stirling Albion’s chairman Stuart Brown insisting Green’s cash offer wouldn’t even cover the cost of policing these games.

Brown said: “This is Mr Green at his best. While I’m sure he’s making the gesture with the best of intentions, I suspect the sum would not cover the cost of putting on such a game.

“I don’t imagine the police viewing the colt teams any differently from Rangers and Celtic’s first teams.

“I don’t mean that as an insult in any way to Rangers. On the two occasions they came to our stadium, there have been zero arrests and zero trouble. But that does not change how the police approach these games.

“Mr Green’s offer does not change our thinking. We’re committed to bringing change to Scottish football and, frankly, the curve balls are not helping.

“We are in favour of the 12-12-18 set-up with a new financial model that spreads the wealth more evenly and a change of governance to one united league body.”

Clyde chairman John Alexander said: “We regard this as nothing but a short-term offer that wouldn’t have much long-term benefit for the bottom division clubs.

“Our club’s position is to support the original proposal that was tabled – a bottom league of 18.

“Even at the outset any discussion of expanding beyond that involved two new clubs, not Rangers and Celtic colts.”

Jeez where do you start with this, so they don't want the Swifts and Colts with guaranteed fans coming to pay with the Swifts 300.

But they will talk about bringing in two new clubs with very little support or financial gain, who put these fools in charge of the game.
