Old Firm absence leads to drop in domestic violence

Recommended Posts

The real problem is that DV is still not taken seriously. If the government spent as much time, effort and money demonising and punishing men who abuse women as they do people who sing sectarian songs at football matches, we might actually begin to get somewhere.

It actually happens that woman are the perpetrators of DV. Obviously not as often as the other way about but it does happen.

This is a load of Bull, if a man or woman like to throw there fists about towards their partner, they will do it no matter the circumstance. Maybe the police/government should just try getting a grip with that instead of muddying the waters by throwing in us and them.

I believe up to a third of cases of female on male. It's incredibly hard to be accurate though as unfortunately the stigma works two ways. Many men suffer in silence as they are embarassed (a similar issue female victims have, not wanting to show friends/family the truth) & also for men, the police reaction. I believe it is improving now but not enough.

Around two women a week die as a result of living with or fleeing from DV & their partners' taking their life. Female abusers are highly unlikely to kill their partner.

Unbelievably, the governments are only now taking cases seriously for teenagers in relationships.

Of course reported domestic incidents have fallen. It's obvious why. Old Firm days at work were a nightmare because people couldn't behave when their team lost.

Those people probably can't behave themselves on most other days either. On matchdays, it's a catalyst for what is already there.
