UEFA CL Barcelona v AC Milan

Recommended Posts

Messi and Ronaldo are off the planet.

Im backing Argentina to win the World Cup next year, I think it will be Messi's tournament as its played in South America. He disppointed in 2010 but so did Maradona in 1982, then at 26 he owned Mexico 86. Messi will be the same - 26.

The amount of times he's fouled is incredible, and he just dusts himself down and gets on with it without complaint, best player I've ever seen.

Im lucky enough to remember seeing Maradona on TV - just. He was incredible and the best and that was even when he was getting kicked off the park, playing in a slightly different era where tackling was tougher, balls heavier and pitches not as good as today....if he played today he'd be unplayable.

Messi is on the way to that. If he wins the CL this season then does it at the WC next summer he will go on par with Maradona.

The term 'Great' gets banded about a lot but there is a top drawer where the best players go into. I didnt see Pele, Best or Cryuff so going on the players I have seen and can remember they are (not in any order):

Maradona

Zidane

Ronaldo (Brazil)

Rivaldo

Romario

Baggio

Ronaldo (Cristiano)

Messi

Stoichkov

M Laudrup

B Laudrup

Gascoigne

Henry

Vieira

Matthaus

Del Piero

Roy Keane

Paul Scholes

Xavi

Iniesta

G Weah

Bergkamp

Van Basten

Gullit

Figo

Hagi

All fantastically gifted players in that list Gribz, but Messi IS the best player I've ever seen

He's done this in the past year........

20 March 2012, he scored three goals against

Granada, making him Barcelona's leading

goalscorer in official competitions, surpassing

club legend César Rodríguez, who had record with 232.

2 May 2012, became the best goalscorer in history

in one season in Europe surpassing Gerd Müller's record

(67 goals in 1972–73) with 68 goals

25 May 2012, set new World scoring record in a season

with 73 goals in all competitions beating a bloke called

Archie Stark of Bethlehem Steel in the American Soccer League in 1924–25.

also apart from the 73 goals he had 29 assists, more than any other player.

Ended the season as the UEFA Champions' League Top Scorer for a fourth consecutive time, with 14 goals

11 November 2012, scored twice at RCD Mallorca,

his 75th and 76th goals in 2012, surpassing Pelé's

milestone of 75 goals (1958) in a calendar year,

9 December 2012, scored twice against

Real Betis, his 85th and 86th goals in 2012,

surpassing Müller's milestone of 85 goals scored

in a calendar year in 1972 with Bayern Munich and

the German national team, as well as surpassing

Rodríguez's record for most league goals for Barcelona

December 2012, New World Record: 91 goals in a calendar year

7 January 2013 Won the 2012 FIFA Ballon d'Or,

to become the only player in history to

win it four times

27 January 2013, scored 4 goals in a

5–1 win against Osasuna, including his

200th goal in La Liga, becoming the 8th player

and the youngest player to do so

16 February 2013, scored his 300th Barcelona goal in a La Liga match against

Granada CF, later scoring again in the match to

bring his tally to 301 goals in 365.

2 March 2013, scored against

Real Madrid, that goal equalled

Alfredo Di Stefano's Clasico goals record of 18

9 March 2013, scored after coming on as

a substitute against Deportivo de La Coruña,

scoring in his 17th consecutive league match

and breaking the all-time world record.

All that and he's still only 25...
