rangers fans fall into a trap

Recommended Posts

I believe I know what songs get us into trouble and what doesn't, but you are calling for a lot of songs that don't get us into trouble and probably never will to be stopped being sung. I disagree with that. Don't see how that is missing the point.

you may know but its obvious plenty others dont. i just dont see the point of singing songs with no relevance. crap about paramilitary groups, the catholic church and the snp etc etc have no place at any football ground.

I don't see the logic in stopping singing a song just because there's some remote chance that it may cause a storm in the future. I guess we should stop singing 3 little birds and Penny Arcade by that logic?

why? why would someone want to ban 3 little birds or penny arcade? what offense could they cause? are they religious or political songs?

i dont know how to multi quote like that bd, sorry mate.

I'd agree that support of paramilitary groups and mentions of the pope should not be sung. I can't see why people shouldn't be allowed to sing about politics. If you think that politics shouldn't be mentioned then fair enough, but others disagree, incluing myself, and football would become very sterile if free speech is banned.

I haven't a clue why people would want to ban 3 litle birds or penny arcade but neither have anything to do with football and could be bastardised in the future and as such by your previous logic, there may be a storm about them and should be banned.

but free speech is banned bluedell. fans can no longer speak or sing what they like.

may i ask why you think singing about politics is ok at a football match?

i can understand 3 little birds after our troubles but i dont understand or know the relevance of penny arcade. thats a strange one.

The incentive is to not be a twat surely? Do you need an incentive to not be insulting? Isn't that a tad childish?

Personally I wouldn't lower myself to singing about BJK, Loyalism or The Pope. This isn't about me or my behaviour. My point is before people get their knickers in a twist and start penning blogs about the ideal fan etc etc maybe they should take stock of where we're at as a support and as a society.

Together for better or worse, warts and all is the only way to defend ourselves against the various detractors.

That's nonsense. Free speech isn't banned. Hate speech is. It is defining hate speech wherein lies the problem. I believe the anti-sectarian laws were incredibly evasive as to what was deemed acceptable etc.

Since that is the case, it is prudent surely to be careful until such time as we can put a case forward and ask questions to reasonable people.

All this weekend has done, is set us back and given further ammunition. Whether a trap/set up whatever, we fell for it and the consequence is comprehensive coverage.

I agree, but how can we be together if this issue divides the support so much? It is also another front to fight against. We are being spread thin defending/responding to mhedia. This is the war we knew was coming when JT came to us. We just handed them a first strike.

It's being left to the PF's office to interpret the law and they are refusing to enter discussions with supporters so it's currently impossible to put a case forward.

I don't see anything wrong with it. Surely people can express their views?

We live in a democracy. Some may not like it and they are entitled to express their alternative views.

This issue doesn't split the fans we all know the add ons have to stop, and the 2 banned songs can't be sung. It isn't handing them anything on a plate they will just get offended by something else, GSTQ & the union flag have been in their offended sights for ages and it won't be long till they go as well. No charges will come from Saturday the authorities don't want to touch this with a barge, its one big can of worms.

As for bad press, the thing is if you keep throwing mud at something eventually people turn off because it just becomes a joke.

The fans are split over how to fight back, some want us whiter than whiter before we open our mouths, that's never going to happen every club has a small minority of muppets in its fan base so we will never be whiter than whiter. The last couple of seasons is as good as Rangers fans are going to get but instead of hitting from the high ground we sat on our arses and said nothing as Celtic rioted (never mind the IRAoke) all over Scottish Football grounds they gave us endless amounts of ammo to hammer them with and we did nothing.

It's what we do, we have no stomach for the fight we would rather sit and point fingers at each and throw blame about, self loathing its what we do best.

yes it is. dress it up how you like, hate speech or whatever. people are no longer free to say what they like.
