Information lifted from RM forum.

Andrew Dickson, not the club officially yet, has requested that we do not cut and paste articles from the official site onto our forums. It could cost the club money.

Here is his tweet.

Andrew Dickson ?@rfc_dickson

A request: could folk stop pasting our stories on to forums & Facebook please? It affects our hits, could affect revenue, etc. Thank you

Here is a poster's explanation that makes sense -

Its all about 'unique' visitors to a website. When you click a link, that hit is registered, if you stay on the site then you're not counted again if you click another page within the same site.

The more 'unique' visitors a website gets, the higher it can charge companies to advertise on it, much like paper circulation figures, the more they sell, the more they charge.

Me thinks thats scrapping the barrel a little.. dont know stats on gers site but thats corporate bs.

*potentially* if the forums were causing litterly millions and millions of unique hits lost it may cause some issues, but affecting revenue? pfft i doubt that a lot.

i could show you a site that has very little unique visitors, but has a much much higher ad space that one that has millions of unique visitors.

We obviously received the same message and are discussing the matter. At this moment nothing has changed on this forum. Frankie or Zappa will probably come with more information in the next few days.

PS. As it is an unofficial message from Rangers and nothing has changed in here it is your own choice whether you copy and paste or link. That will probably be based on whether you think you are costing Rangers money or not.

Frankie is happy with how things work here, so we're not changing the way things are done.

We already get the complete news articles pumped into the forum via the official site's RSS feeds and at the bottom of each article there's also a link to the page for that article on the main site, so if anything those news article feeds actually generate some traffic for the official site by the inclusion of the link/url.

As it stands, we'll only need to come back to this issue if they scrap the RSS feeds.

Thx, didn't know that.
