Celtic chiefs: Discriminatory rap is just so un-FARE

CELTIC chiefs blasted anti-bigotry campaigners who wrongly claimed the club was at the centre of a sectarian probe.

FARE Network accused Hoops fans of “discriminatory chants” in a statement on its website.

The group — which in the past reported Rangers to UEFA over supporters’ hate songs — said the incident appeared to stem from a Champions League match against Barcelona in October.

But the alleged video “evidence” turned out to be from a fixture between the clubs FIVE years ago, — when there was NO fan trouble.

FARE were forced to admit the blunder and remove the offending web link after protests.

A Celts spokesman said: “The mistake was disappointing but we are pleased they corrected it quickly.” And a FARE spokesman added: “It appears we may have been mistakenly informed of a game some years ago. The reference to the match has been taken down.” FARE — run by Piara Powar — had Rangers nailed on a UEFA bigot rap in 2011.

The club was fined £71,200 and fans were banned from an away game in Europe over incidents in Holland.
