Rangers Supporters Trust statement on re-construction

Recommended Posts

We were conned into believing we were being defiant in a similar way to fast food & soft drink corporations conning people into believing it's sexy to be obese... by a manipulative broadcast media & printed press.

Who thinks it's sexy to be obese?

Aye, if I recall correctly there was talk of points deductions for several seasons to keep us as the top flight cash cow.

You are correct.

15pts points deduction for two seasons, and the surrender of 75% of our sponsorship revenue for three seasons, was originally proposed by Dundee United chairman Timmy Thompson. The "punishment" would still be in force if we had been relegated to the first Div and then promoted back to SPL within one season. Which is why Petrie and Lawwells pal Regan, were trying to manipulate the SFL into playing along with that particular scheme.

Rangers fans group threaten away boycott if SPL rule changes approved

STV 12 April 2012 17:05 BST

Rangers supporters have threatened a boycott of away games if plans for new sanctions on insolvent SPL clubs come to fruition.

Proposals have been made to impose stricter points penalties on clubs which go into administration, as well as punishing clubs who fail to pay their players or meet obligations to pay tax.

Clear consequences for teams choosing to form a newco and transfer their league share have also been set out in the resolutions, with a planned ten point deduction for two consecutive seasons.

The proposals for newco clubs have been viewed by many Rangers fans as too severe and the Rangers Supporters Trust say they will consider suggesting travelling supporters avoid away travel, if clubs vote through the amendments.

A statement from the group read: “The board of the Rangers Supporters Trust, like other fans of the club, are not in the least surprised by the actions and timing of the SPL decision to vote on rule changes which has now further delayed a future takeover of Rangers.

“Given the severity of the possible sanctions, and their impact on any club who may also fall on hard times through mismanagement, it leaves us little option to give serious consideration of calling for a boycott of away fixtures by Rangers fans next season; specifically targeting those clubs who have rushed through the proposals to punish our club with these excessive and draconian penalties.

“We will discuss this in the near future with our sister organisations the Rangers Supporters Association and Assembly to maximise impact and collate ideas on how a boycott could be facilitated if deemed necessary.

“There appears to be a change in attitude within our support and a unified determination not seen before as we again see another attempt to persecute our club whilst we are at our most vulnerable.

“It may also be important to consider how these severe penalties, currently aimed at one club in particular, will impact future league and club sponsorship and have a secondary impact on all clubs reducing the stature of Scottish football as a whole.

“With this in mind we will contact several of the main sponsors to seek their thoughts on how these sanctions would affect their level of investment given the obvious inevitable decreasing level of competitiveness in the SPL in future.”

The proposed changes also include provision to deduct 75% of league-generated revenue from newco clubs for three years, on top of the points deduction.

Clubs will vote on the proposals on April 30. If successful, the amendments will become rules as of May 14, one day after the 2011/12 season.

The Scottish Premier League has told the Scottish Football League clubs gathering at Hampden that they have no problem with a 12-12-10-10 set-up.

On Monday, SPL chief executive Neil Doncaster said its 12 clubs were "unanimous" in their backing for a 12-12-18 plan , possibly for next season.

With some SFL clubs fearing an 18-team tier would create too many meaningless matches, a new plan has emerged.

It would involve expanding the number of senior clubs by two to 44.

The 30 SFL clubs have discussed the options at their meeting at the national stadium in Glasgow but a formal vote did not take place.

Instead, a vote by 29 of the clubs - Rangers, as an associate member, do not have a vote - will most likely take place in March, with 75% needing to agree to the proposal for it to be ratified.

"There was a distinct mood that we still are keen on a full 42-club solution to take the game forward and that's what we got," said SFL chief executive David Longmuir after Thursday's meeting.

"We were talking principles - one league body, pyramid, governance, distribution - and it was a very good meeting.

"All 30 clubs gave their indication that they wish us to take the meeting and the detail forward now, so that's what we'll do. We'll look at the combined rulebook.

"We'll need to bring it back in a more formal package to the 30 club and allow them to make a much more informed decision.

"Any change is deliverable if there is a will and a consensus. We want to see an improvement in the game.

"Whether or not it is achievable for next year is another matter and that will be determined by what we can do over the next few weeks and months."

The SPL says it had suggested a 12-12-10-10 formation to the SFL board but that its member clubs had preferred a three-tier plan.

Earlier, in mid-November, the SFL clubs had unanimously voted for a 16-10-16 structure for season 2014-15.

Of course, if the 12-12-10-10 format is backed by the SFL clubs, then there will be five tiers in Scottish football once the bottom four of the top tier and the top four of the second tier form a mini-league after 22 matches in their respective divisions.

There would be play-offs between the third and fourth tiers but it is not yet known what the movement of teams would be between the second and third tiers.

Also, the clubs would have to decide how they will add two more clubs to the ranks of the proposed new league that will be run by one body, following a merger of the SPL and SFL.

For example, will certain clubs be invited to apply, or will there be a general call for applications?

Ross County and the two teams that formed to create Inverness Caledonian Thistle emerged from the Highland League when the leagues were restructured in the 1990s and that league may provide a new recruit.

Similarly, the East of Scotland Football League, featuring teams such as Spartans and Edinburgh City, may have clubs interested in switching divisions.

A 12-12-10-10 set-up may suit Rangers, who currently enjoy a 20-point lead in the Third Division.

They were angered by the suggestion that they could win the league title but still find themselves playing the same teams next season as they have faced in the current campaign.

Sorry if this is posted elsewhere but Im just catching up on yesterdays news after being offline for 2 days.

This is as bad as SPL....it would still have 4 leagues, and they want to ADD teams?? We need a reduction unless its regional. Dopes from top to bottom: SPL, SFA and SFL.
