Rangers Supporters Trust statement on re-construction

Recommended Posts

My worry is that a lot of the third division teams may see playing Rangers next season again as a reason to vote for it.

Don't forget the SFL 2 sides that are hovering around relegation. As it stands they'll miss out on the windfall from travelling Bears, so voting for this means they're guaranteed to meet us.

We're definitely getting used as a carrot for the current 2nd and 3rd division clubs to vote through the proposals because without us in that bottom tier of 18 teams those clubs would be far, far less likely to vote in favour of the proposed 12-12-18 setup.

I think most of the current 3rd division clubs could be persuaded to vote in favour given it would mean they'll meet us again next season, but the 2nd division clubs should be much more divided on it because as things stand they'll be getting us visiting them twice next season, whereas if the proposals are voted through and implemented for the start of next season they'll only get us visiting once in an 18 team league.

Regardless of what we think of Doncaster and co, they're switched on and know exactly what they're doing. Bastards!

Aye, they're not as daft as we often make them out to be, although allowing us to end up playing in the 4th tier was sheer stupidity on their part and these reconstruction proposals are pretty bonkers too.

We might not have a seat at the discussion tables or an actual vote, but we've still got at least 2 wild cards we could play before the final voting takes place.

The obvious one (and most important) is for Green to state that under no circumstances will we accept losing out on our deserved promotion and that should we win the league this season we won't accept still being in the same league as our current opponents.

The second one is that Green could state that under no circumstances will we accept the SPL profiting from Rangers game broadcasting rights after having thrown us out and that the SPL will only see a penny from us once we're back in the top flight. That's a problematic tactic though since we foolishly asked to be put in the 3rd division last summer (big mistake IMO) and also because it would probably give the SFA an excuse to hammer us even further, possibly even threaten our membership.

Personally the TV deal is our only real leverage at present. Thing is, if majority SFL clubs accept the plans we might end up incurring fines for refusing to let TV companies in Ibrox. Hard to believe our short to medium term future is in the hands of amateur clubs.

Indeed and it's also hard to believe that the SPL and it's member clubs could profit off of Rangers' televised fixtures when they did indeed essentially throw us out.
