Talks over new SPL sponsor stall amid uncertainty over league reconstruction

TALKS over finding a new sponsor for the SPL have stalled amid problems caused by indecision over league reconstruction, says chief-executive Neil Doncaster.

SPL chief executive Neil Doncaster has revealed talks over finding a new sponsor for the league have stalled.

The contract the SPL has had with the Clydesdale Bank since 2007 expires in May. And, in an exclusive interview with Record Sport, Doncaster admits the indecision over league reconstruction has created a problem.

He said: â??Thereâ??s uncertainty over what the league set-up will be next season and the market place doesnâ??t like uncertainty.

Doncaster is now asking for â??consensusâ? when the 12 SPL clubs hold their latest round of talks at Hampden on Monday.

He said: â??If we donâ??t get agreement then we have to stick with the status quo and that is what people appear to want least of all.

â??Everyone appears to agree we need change to refresh the game, so we face stark choices on Monday.

â??Either we go forward with 12-12-18 or we stick with what weâ??ve got.â?

12-12-18 appears to be what people want least of all actually.

Shambolic.....the end of the season is 4 months away and they dont know what structure they will be playing in 2 months after with no sponsors. The SPL may not even exist in August with that Joker Doncaster. How he is still in the country (never mind a job) is beyond me. He has destroyed the game. A former MP (McLeish) comes in spends a year of tax payers money doing a report at the same time asking the tax payer what they want and it gets put in a drawer somewhere and ignored.
