Reconstruction talks

Recommended Posts

Absolute farce, would just be as well have loads of regional leagues of 8 with the top 2 going into playoffs to see who wins it makes as much sense as this load of pish.

So going 12-12-18 effectively the second tier championship winner is no more and its just one big relegation/promotion playoff where do you start with that one, you have teams playing in a league nobody ever wins  you could potentially never have any promotion from the second tier, only in Scotland would this be getting pushed through as a brave new world.

they keep saying it's what's best for the clubs financial wise, well it's not if there's no fans at the grounds, it's not if the sponsors and TV deals run away if this goes through. I honestly can't believe this might actually happen, surely others in the game all over Scotland can see this will be a disaster and could possibly cripple our game for good or a very long time at least.

The fans don't want this and like others have said why not listen this time as they did in the summer to get rid of us, absolute jokers running our game.

How does the splits work? Do the points get wiped and go back to 0? I dont understand how it will work especially in group 2 if points are not set to 0. The top 4 from 2nd tier are likely to have accumulated much more points than the bottom 4 from the SPL so straight away those 4 will be potentially miles ahead of the SPL1 4 teams in the split.

But if points are set to 0 then imagine Celtic are way clear at the top but all of a sudden they dont go on to win the league....

Or maybe those genuises at the SPL say only the top groups points remain but the rest are set to 0.

I think it's only the 2nd tier's points that revert to zero.

This therefore means that if a club believes that they are going to finish in the bottom 4 of the SPL there is no inentive for that team to win any games until the split as their points in the 2nd tier start the same as the 9th team.

Rangers fume over absence from vote on Scottish football reform - 9 Jan 2013 07:04

IBROX chiefs believe they should be involved in talks for league reconstruction and have urged caution in rushing towards the proposed 12-12-18 system.

RAGING Rangers yesterday claimed they should be at the centre of league reconstruction talks – but they don’t even have a vote on the way forward.

The Light Blues have hit out after Scottish football moved closer to a 12-12-18 set-up next term following five hours of talks between the game’s governing bodies at Hampden.

Representatives of the SPL and SFL agreed in principle at the meeting, hosted by the SFA, to merge under a new league set-up with a fairer redistribution of finances.

Dawn of a new era: Scottish football chiefs' joy as clubs agree new 12-12-18 league structure

Nine representatives from the SFL and six from the SPL were at the talks but Rangers weren’t asked to contribute.

An Ibrox spokesman last night said: “It seems odd to us that, as the biggest club in Scotland, we were not invited to the meeting.

“Like many people, we believe that change should not be rushed through for the sake of it.”

Charles Green’s Rangers were only granted entry to the SFL last summer following their meltdown – on condition they start in Division Three as associate members.

They are therefore excluded from voting for four seasons and will not be polled when SFL clubs go to the ballot on reconstruction at an egm, most likely next month.

The SFL needs 22 of its 29 members with full voting rights to go with the change and clubs will pore over details of yesterday’s talks before the egm is called.

A Scottish League spokesman said: “As an associate member, Rangers will have no voting rights on the new structure.”

One SFL insider said: “It’s a bit cheeky of Rangers to ask to be involved in talks when they don’t even have a vote.

“The league was well represented at the talks by the SFL board. Details will be digested but it’s unlikely the proposals will be rejected once an egm is called.”

PETERHEAD manager Jim McInally today blasted suggestions that Scottish league reconstruction could be in place by next season as “ludicrous”.

SPL and SFL clubs are meeting today to continue talks on how best to shape the future of the game in this country.

While the Blue Toon boss is in favour of reconstruction he is firmly against a switch being in place by this summer.

McInally insisted it would be against sporting integrity for this season’s Third Division to be effectively scrapped.

A move to a larger bottom tier of 18 clubs would mean that Division Three teams would have no chance of promotion this term.

However, he admitted that such a scenario is possible due to bigger clubs looking after their own interests.

While many would like to see us stuck in the bottom tier for another season, you'd have to expect a smidgen of common sense to prevail relating to greed and self preservation. It doesn't seem possible that they could do it next season but for their own pocket it would make more sense to wait until the season after when you'd expect Rangers to finish in the top two and therefore be included in the SPL2.

However, it seems our leagues are run by morons and I think we should seriously think about jumping ship to a lower tier of the divisions down south.

Our club represent something like 25% of all football fans in Scotland - and yet don't get a say and yet teams with 0.25% do - and then call us "cheeky". You couldn't make it up. If we stick with this sorry lot, we need to keep a long, long memory for this kind of stuff.

The tail is truly waging the dog.

I think it's only the 2nd tier's points that revert to zero.

This therefore means that if a club believes that they are going to finish in the bottom 4 of the SPL there is no inentive for that team to win any games until the split as their points in the 2nd tier start the same as the 9th team.

So the team at the top of the second tier at the split is the winner and given the trophy ( or as I said earlier will there be no champion ever again) only for them to have no points and go into the playoff where the second place team can win promotion and they can be left in the second tier.

Utter madness.

If these clowns try to reconstruct the leagues starting next season is it even legal?,is it in their made up rule book?

I'm sure they could get a 'low level paper gatherer' to change the rules. AGAIN.

SPL chief executive Neil Doncaster says 12-12-18 failed in Austria due to everyone wanting to "play the two biggest clubs in country". #spl

Doncaster adds: "We don't have that problem at the moment." Well, no we don't.
