Rangers only halfway to record run

Recommended Posts

RANGERS may have chalked up 11 league wins in a row, but they are only halfway to beating a 114-year-old club record.

Ally McCoistâ??s men are steamrolling their way to the Third Division title after storming 17 points clear in Scotlandâ??s bottom tier. They have won every game in the league since suffering a shock 1-0 defeat by Stirling in September.

But they would need to win their next 11 games too if they are to equal the record of consecutive league games won in a row.

Rangers won 22 games on the spin in season 1898-99, starting with a 6-2 win over Partick Thistle on 20 August, 1898 and ending on 18 September, 1899 when they were held to a 1-1 draw by Hearts. Not only did they win every league game for 13 months, they went through season 1898-99 with a 100 per cent record after winning all 18 league games.

But McCoistâ??s men have a chance of beating that record if they keep their relentless recent form up. Rangers have also won all eight home league games at Ibrox this season.

The record for home wins in a row was achieved by Alex McLeishâ??s side in 2002 when they embarked on a 13-month period that saw them win 19 home league games on the trot.

Shit manager though ;)

Sreriously though, I dont think that we will break the record but we certainly have the personnel capable to do so.

The one "run" that stands out for me was in season 1992/93, when we went on a 44-game unbeaten run, all competitions (CL too) included.

Awesome season. Most enjoyable I have ever had as a Bear, even better than making the UEFA Final in 2008.

I remember being at the Piggery when the run was ongoing and worrying about it ending... Neednt have worried, in typical style we soaked up all their pressure and Durrant (I think it was Durrant anyway) popped up with a winner for the Bears. Only shame was he scored it at the Celtic end so I could barely see the goal.....

For all the negative stats and facts people can throw out about Eck there's at least as many positive ones that dont get the same publicity. First i'd heard of that record.

Staggering. I wonder how many times we beat the mhanks in that run...*off to google*

MC'ed many of the games that where live on BBC2/5 or BFBS that year, one clip was from the League Cup where we beat the Hooped Horrors 1-0 thanks to Mark Hately's goal and Fraser Wishart came on as a sub and almost hit the cross-bar. Many of the games against them were rather edgy affairs and at the time, I had actually some respect for their players, van Hooijdonk et al.
