craig 5,199
At his prime, Barry Ferguson was a tremendous footballer so I'd have to opt for him in terms of the modern era. Not as good as Durrant - I guess Durrant would still be considered modern era ? Ferguson's career lasted far longer than Durrant's at the highest level... but Durrant was more talented IMO.
ian1964 10,761
I like the look of all the young players,I also like them signing long term contracts, they can become very good Rangers players with the amount of regular first team they are getting, the door is certainly open for them. Exciting times ahead.

Obviously they were very different players and I was a bit young to appreciate Durrant at his best pre-Simpson. For that reason I'd have to go for Ferguson but only because I seen more of him.

You arent THAT young Fair enough point considering who you have seen play most. And I readily admit bias. And very different players but I felt that Durrant had pretty much everything in his locker (aside from not being a tackler). Pace, eye for goal, timing, breaking beyond his strikers, passing and distribution was very good - I felt he was more of an all round player than BF. That said, BF also was a fine player and also had his moments in front of goal too when playing a more advanced role. Strangely enough I felt he was better in the holding role controlling things though. Durrant's talent would probably have seen him leave us if he had remained injury free.

Subjectivity is the issue here, how do you compare two players who played in different positions? Was Goram better than Gough or Laudrup? Which is why we tend do look at international caps, appearances and trophies, even that's not an exact science as different eras can skew that. Durrant was a different type of player from Ferguson, a more exciting player, easier on the eye too, but Ferguson was more complete. I imagine Durrant's trophy haul is bigger than Ferguson's, but Barry had more caps. No one said this was easy.

Subjectivity will always be at play... unless of course we sign Messi
