Dundee United have agreed ticket prices for their Scottish Cup tie with Rangers

Recommended Posts

Dundee United have agreed ticket prices for their Scottish Cup tie following â??constructive dialogue' with Rangers.

Earlier this month the Ibrox side confirmed they would not be taking its allocation of tickets for the Scottish Cup fifth round tie.

Last week Rangers chief executive Charles Green said he had spoken to SFA chief executive Stewart Regan over Dundee Unitedâ??s plan to allocate a section of the stadium for â??for those Rangers fans who wish to attend.â??

In an article in Unitedâ??s match programme for the game against St Mirren, the Tannadice club have clarified their position.

It is reproduced here in full: â??Following advice from the Scottish FA and discussions with Rangers, ticket prices for the 5th Round Scottish Cup tie on 2 February have been set at £15 adults and £5 concessions.

â??A section of the stadium will be reserved for those Rangers fans who wish to attend.

â??As a point of principle, in the exceptional circumstances whereby we had been instructed not to sell any tickets for this match to away fans, Dundee United had requested the Scottish FA to allow the club to waive certain conditions of the Rules of the Scottish Cup, under the powers available to them.

â??Although the matter has been considered in some depth by the Scottish FA and their legal advisors, we have now been informed that they are unable to intervene in this matter.

â??In the best interests of the competition, Dundee United will adhere fully to this advice. Subsequently, reduced admission prices have been agreed in a constructive dialogue with Rangers.

Dundee United director Derek Robertson said: â??While we remain disappointed with the position of Rangers in respect of not taking any tickets for this match, we will not make any statements which may inflame the situation, particularly to avoid encouraging any hostility between our two sets of supporters.

â??Now that ticket prices have been agreed, we hope that everyone can focus on what matters most; a game of football.

â??For the good of Scottish football, and indeed, the Scottish Cup, we would urge all parties to move on and look forward to the prospect of a terrific Scottish Cup tie in February.

â??Although Rangers do not wish to take a ticket allocation for this match, opposition fans are always welcome at Tannadice and we will be happy to reserve an appropriate section of the stadium for any Rangers fans who wish to attend this fixture.â?

If Rangers weren't boycotting the game, and we were taking a full allocation, would the tickets be priced at £15? Not a chance!

They would have been £25 + so they could get as much money out of us as they could.

Dundee United urge fans to sell out Ibrox-boycotted Scottish Cup fixture against Rangers

STEPHEN THOMPSON has urged the Arab faithful to get behind their team and turn Tannadice into a tangerine sea.

DUNDEE UNITED chairman Stephen Thompson last night urged Arabs fans to sell out Tannadice for the club’s Scottish Cup grudge match with Rangers.

The SPL club announced ticket prices for the hotly-anticipated showdown on February 2 which is being officially boycotted by the Ibrox club.

Rangers owner Charles Green admits he'll attend Dundee United cup clash despite urging fans to boycott tie

United – who have to split the gate with Rangers despite their refusal to take tickets – are charging £15 for adults and £5 for concessions.

Rangers fans who still wish to attend can buy tickets direct from Tannadice for the away end but Thompson has asked home fans to turn out in force.

He said: “Much has been said and written about this fixture since it was first announced.

“Most of this has been based on ill-informed criticism of this club and we will not respond in kind. Instead we would much prefer that both clubs do their talking on the pitch.

Dundee United blast Ibrox chief Charles Green over claims selling tickets to Rangers fans risks their safety

“A large crowd backing the team will give us an even greater chance of winning the match. We have made this as affordable as possible and in a season when our fans have shown unwavering support I urge them once again to turn out in great numbers and drive the team on in this game.

“The Scottish Cup brings great memories for all Arabs and I ask everyone to turn Tannadice into a sea of tangerine when we play Rangers.”

Briefs go on sale to United season-ticket holders today with a general sale for both the home and away end commencing on Friday.
