Nottingham Forest name Alex McLeish as new manager

And left today....

Nottingham Forest manager Alex McLeish has left the club by mutual consent after just over six weeks in charge.

Chairman Fawaz Al-Hasawi told the club website: "I'm bitterly disappointed - as is Alex - that it has not worked out as we had hoped.

"I would like to put on record my thanks for his services and wish him every success in the future."

McLeish was appointed on 28 December but only won one game out of seven and lost five of those matches.

The club have said they will not be making any further comment.

McLeish said: "I am extremely saddened to be leaving after such a short period but even so it has been a privilege to be manager of such a fantastic football club and I want to thank the players, staff and fans for their support and wish Nottingham Forest the best of fortunes ahead.

"Both parties entered into the relationship in good faith, however, there was a difference in the understanding of the development strategy of the football club and it was felt by both parties that we should part company."

More to follow.

This could revive Forests season and still give them a chance at the play offs.

Maybe the owners realised the error and pulled out on the signing last week, ok that would be dirty tactics but if they sacked him after 7 games they'd have had to pay him.

Ive said a few times, he'll be the next Aberdeen manager.

I don't care how good or bad a manager is, 41 days is no time to judge someone in a job.

Taking over a club who is in good form and pushing up the league then turning them the other way to win only 1 game in 7 against the bottom club says it is enough time. And then coming out with this:

"We were devoid of any ideas and legs and it was one of the worst defensive performances I've seen - it was a 'brain dead' performance.
