Wallace Red Card Overturned

Rangers defender Lee Wallace has had his appeal upheld against a red card suffered against Annan Athletic.

The Scotland left-back was sent off by Paul Robertson for a foul on Jack Steele during Rangers' 3-0 win at Ibrox on 18 December .

But a Scottish Football Association fast-track tribunal reduced the offence to a yellow card.

Wallace had argued that, while he had fouled the Annan midfielder, he had not denied a goalscoring opportunity.

An SFA statement confirmed: "Upon reviewing the incident, the match referee, Paul Robertson, stood by the awarding of a penalty kick but considered that the incident did not deny an obvious goalscoring opportunity.

"The tribunal accepted this view and upheld the player reference, reducing the offence to a caution for unsporting behaviour (holding or pushing an opponent)."

Wallace has been able to play in victories over Elgin City and Clyde while waiting for his claim of wrongful dismissal to be heard.

The defender opened the scoring in the 3-0 Boxing Day victory over Clyde that stretched Rangers' lead in Division Three to 12 points.

He will now be available for Saturday's Glasgow derby against Queen's Park.

Not sure it was a foul either but good on the ref for admitting he was wrong.

I wonder if we were in the SPL, would the same decision have been reached!!
