Eastern promise for Celts

Recommended Posts

CELTIC were last night celebrating as their dreams of a European league were given a huge boost.

UEFA have allowed the Russian and Ukrainian leagues to merge.

And SunSport understands the Hoops see this news as a hugely significant development for the clubs in favour of forming a European league.

Celtic chief executive Peter Lawwell said only last month that his club would be interested in a regionalisation of leagues.

This could involve teams from Holland, Belgium and the Scandinavian nations.

With the top leagues in Europe growing ever-stronger the Russians reckon unification is their only way to compete.

CSKA Moscow president Evgeny Gliner said: â??We NEED to make it so thereâ??s fan interest, sponsor interest and TV interest.â?

Talks will continue over the proposed merger, with Celtic and a host of clubs around Europe eager to see the outcome.
