We Wonâ??t Go Back to SPL

Recommended Posts

Jingso guys. Of course he meant 'in its current form' There are many twists and turns to come over league format and many of the possible formats may include the notional title of the top league being the SPL. As long as its out of the control of the current cabal of clubs then that's the important thing. We should not go back to the SPL in its current format but we shouldn't and can't rule out ever returning to any form of SPL. Most of the big clubs will still be there when we return, we will need to learn to work with them somehow, hopefully on our terms but compromise will be needed. Closed minds will be bad for us too.

Well I certainly have never envisaged a situuation where Green would turn down the prospect of European football, that's the key issue really.

You mean you never believed Greens claim of "While I'm chief executive, Rangers will not play in the Scottish Premier League." in the first place?

It's good to hear him saying this as we can't compete in Europe for a couple of years anyway,if we were in a position to compete in Europe next season say, would he be saying the same?. As it is at the moment he should continue to say that, IMO.

I love how you try and deflect a simple yes or no question, so which is it yes or no?

Yes I believed it because I imagine he's been very confident of top flight reconstruction. Perhaps he's less confident now, who knows really?

I didn't believe it in the sense that he'd turn down the chance to return to Europe.

Talk of Europe at this stage is simply a red herring.

Fact is Green like his predecessors speaks with a forked tongue and treats the fans with contempt and disdain when it suits his purpose.

The fans are split over the SPL situation so don't know what that's got to do with it.

A couple of points:

Firstly, the reconstruction of the leagues isn't something which will definitely be rushed through because there isn't a broad agreement on the best way forward. The majority of the SPL clubs won't agree to go with the SFL's radical 16-10-16 concept and the majority of the SFL clubs won't agree to whatever crazy plan the SPL want to run with. Without a majority of the 42 clubs being in agreement over a reconstruction plan, then there's a very good chance that it won't happen in a hurry. I actually think the SPL might continue with their fighting dirty tactics and basically try to bribe a bunch of SFL clubs to join sides with the SPL in a two league structure which will start a war between the SPL & SFL.

Secondly, without reconstruction, our earliest possible opportunity to play in Europe again would be 2016, so almost 4 years away. Personally, I can't even see Charles Green still being here in 4 years time.

I don't see any split over the SPL, every Bear I've talked to is of the opinion that the SPL can go f*&k themselves a view which Green seemed to share till his volte face.
