Guest DietofWorms
In Flanders fields the poppies blow Between the crosses, row on row, That mark our place; and in the sky The larks, still bravely singing, fly. Scarce heard amid the guns below. We are the Dead. Short days ago We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow, Loved and were loved, and now we lie In Flanders fields. Take up our quarrel with the foe: To you from failing hands we throw The torch; be yours to hold it high. If ye break faith with us who die We shall not sleep, though poppies grow In Flanders fields. John McCrae. 1915.

pete 2,499
Fact or not. I have been told many times by Dutch people that the British Army enlists men by giving criminals the option of Jail or Army service. This is not from one person but a pretty established opinion over here. I have continually argued against that as I have never heard of anyone being given that choice. Do Courts give that option? Any soldiers I know have certainly all joined of their own free will and I can't ever remember it ever being spoke about when I lived in Scotland.

Never heard of that in the UK, if your guilty its the jail. More of an American thing.
