SPL, Hearts and Armageddon

Teasing your rivals is not on - unless you are Rangers of course.

Hibernian have sacked their stadium announcer after he played a song that teased bitter rivals Hearts over their financial problems.

Hearts could go out of business within days after the club was issued with a winding-up order by HMRC over an unpaid £450,000 PAYE, National Insurance and VAT bill.

During the half-time break at Easter Road in Hibernian's 2-1 victory over Dundee United on Sunday the announcer played the Beatles song Tax Man.

The match was televised on Sky Sports, and some Hearts fans took offence to the gesture and complained.

A Hibernian spokesman insisted the record had not been sanctioned to be aired by the club.

"The stadium announcer's contract has been terminated following a breach of conduct," the spokesman said.

Aberdeen to thwart bid for 16-team SPL as Pittodrie chiefs eye 10-team top flight

IT'S understood the Dons are against any more clubs being brought into the SPL as they believe it would only dilute funds spread among teams further.

ABERDEEN will attempt to block moves to expand the SPL â?? because theyâ??d prefer to see a 10-team top tier.

The Pittodrie club refused to be drawn on SFL proposals for a 16-team division as they were not consulted before the plans were leaked this week.

Aberdeen released a short statement which said: â??We continue to engage with the other SPL clubs to develop the right plan for moving Scottish football forward.

â??At this stage weâ??d prefer not to make any comment on the SFL plans as we have not seen or discussed them.â?

The Dons board will study the proposals but it is understood they are firmly against bringing in additional clubs and diluting the funds spread among the teams at the top. Aberdeen have continued to maintain their alliance with Celtic and voted against a change in the 11-1 SPL voting structure.

Both clubs would prefer a return to a 10-team top flight and an end to the split.

Aberdeen chief executive Duncan Fraser, who also sits on the SPL board, will argue against the proposals and also the prospect of altering the set-up to allow Rangers a speedier return to the SPL.

The Dons bowed to fan pressure and voted against allowing Rangers re-entry to the SPL after transferring assets to a new company.

With attendances on the up at Pittodrie they canâ??t afford to undo the fansâ?? goodwill.:smokin:

Hibs are denying it was this he was binned for, rather for playing a song with swearing in it on 'Hibs Kids Day' which conjures up some disturbing images in itself. The song apparently was by Green Day, surely a sacking offence on its own!

The sheep want THREE teams relegated from the spl as it could increase their funds - Selfish bastards!!

Would they be saying that if they were near the bottom as in recent years, I doubt it!! Again it's nothing to do with what's good for Scottish football it's all about money..:(

There's nothing wrong with fans teasing their rivals but employees of the club should not do it themselves...

I don't know about the story you're referring to. Care to expand? :)

It was pre-Fergus McCann days, I don't even remember what had happened, we might have lost in Europe or something and he played a tune or made a quip about it at the next Celtic home game and was publicly rebuked and then sacked by their board. It was fairly big news at the time, if nothing else I think most people thought it was overkill by the Celtic board who were very unpopular with their support and the media in general at the time.

As a fan of the Untied Shoelaces Show I always struggled with Tim Stevens working at Parkhead, but what are you going to do after the tigers gone?

tiger tim got the bullet by fergus mccann for saying lets have a minutes silence for rangers getting knocked out of europe or words to that effect.

they were playing the same night though not in europe.

the truth of it was fergus wanted a cheeper option than tiget tim.
