Fraser doing it for Dad

BILL AIRD left Scotland 25 years ago so he could chase his dream.

Today he will make an emotional return to see his 17-year-old son fulfil his.

Proud father and Rangers-daft Bill will be at Broadwood to see his boy Fraser line up for Gers against Clyde.

Itâ??s the first time heâ??ll have seen him play in the flesh.

Aird senior was born and bred in Glasgow, but emigrated to Canada in 1987.

Eight years later the kid now starring for his boyhood heroes was born.

And last night Aird junior admitted heâ??s desperate to help fire Rangers to their first away win of the campaign â?? and dedicate the glory to his dad.

The Gers starlet revealed: â??My dad is flying over for the first time tomorrow.

â??He is here for a week so heâ??ll take in the three games.

â??It will be really emotional to have him here because so far he has only ever seen me playing on TV.

â??My dad is a huge Rangers fan and I know how proud he is of me. Hopefully I can be on the bench or at least in the squad for the weekend.

â??I know how much it will mean to my dad to see me play for Rangers.â?

But thereâ??s a chance it could be painful viewing.

Rangers have yet to win on their travels this season while Aird admits heâ??s had to adjust to the physical demands of Division Three.

He smiled: â??Itâ??s an experience playing against the older pros.

â??I think they look at me as some young boy trying to do wonders on the ball.

â??They try and boot me up in the air as quickly as they can just to bring me back to earth.

â??Itâ??s much harder than playing in the Under-19s but you just have to get by it.

â??I havenâ??t had any verbals as such, itâ??s been more physical.

â??They try and get in my face as quickly as they can. I donâ??t get a lot of time on the ball but Iâ??ll tell you what itâ??s really benefited me.

â??Itâ??s improved me as a player and at the end of the day thatâ??s all I want to do.

â??Itâ??s been a massive learning curve for me.

â??But I am enjoying it of that there is no doubt. We just need to handle the intensity of these games a bit better.â?

Gers are top of Division Three and Aird is determined to help them stay there.

But he admits they must do much better on the road.

Ally McCoistâ??s men were stunned by Stirling Albion last time out while theyâ??ve also suffered dismal draws at Peterhead, Berwich and Annan.

They face Jim Duffyâ??s Clyde today â?? and Aird insisted: â??Hopefully we can address this away record.

â??Itâ??s starting to get to us, we really need to get this monkey off our back.

â??At the end of the day itâ??s just another game.

â??I accept that for most of these teams itâ??s like a cup final when they play us but we need to adapt to that.

â??This time last year I was only playing in front of 1,000 fans so it shouldnâ??t be that different. We as players need to get used to playing in front of smaller crowds when we go away from home.

â??Itâ??s nice to play in front of 50,000 but it wonâ??t happen every week and we need to accept that.â?

Aird made his Gers debut last month before being handed his first ever senior start against Motherwell in the League Cup.

He was Man of the Match against Well and heâ??s out to impress again against Clyde.

Aird would love to help restore Rangers to their former glory but last night confessed: â??I am still pinching myself about how quickly it has all happened.

â??It doesnâ??t feel real if I am honest.

â??A few people have stopped and asked for an autograph or a picture.

â??In that respect things have changed for me because I am being recognised more. I love it to be honest, itâ??s great.

â??But I know I have a job to do and I know the expectations I need to carry.

â??The supporters want to see Rangers back in the top league and as players thatâ??s where we want to be.â?
