Craig Whyte: I brought Charles Green in to buy Rangers

Recommended Posts

Main points from Whyte's interview with Radio Scotland

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Restructuring Rangers was well within his comfort zone.

Didn't appreciate the level of media interest.

Fan base could be monetised and their was money to be made.

Had 2 or 3 year plan to maximise revenue and move on.

Knew there was a high likelihood of admin. 75% chance.

Murray and Lloyds well aware than admin was probable.

Knew CVA was unlikely and that HMRC were difficult to deal with.

Club was a financial basket case.

Admin should have happened in the close season - he would have remained in charge then.

Murray was very keen to get out.

Using Ticketus was the best way to fund the deal.

Did nothing morally wrong.

Billionaire talk was nothing to do with him. Tabloid nonsense.

Misled people about the funding.

D&P knew from the beginning that Ticketus deal was in place. Attended all meetings and celebration of deal completion.

Lloyds may not have been aware of Ticketus deal.

Murray & Lloyds did not know source of funds although were well aware that future season ticket sales may be used.

Admits fans were misled. Regrets this.

Murray not duped. Aware that newco may happen.

Being knocked out of Europe meant that cash was running out.

Club had no money to pay PAYE to HMRC.

Everyone at senior level should have been aware that PAYE was not being paid.

Wanted to avoid admin but had no option.

Previous board had taken insolvency advice.

Tried to negotiate with HMRC on BTC but got knocked back.

Got Salmond involved but he got nowhere with HMRC.

Surprised that D&P took on admin due to conflict of interest. They got involved and elongated the process to make money out of it.

His decision who the club went to. He found the buyer, not D&P. He brought CG to the table.

Met Doncaster and Topping in October and told them that admin was inevitable and that CVA chance was slim.

SPL and SFA dealings with the situation has been a disaster. They are a laughing stock.

Will not pay the 200k fine. They have not asked for it.

EBT scheme is ultimately to blame for all that has happened.

Old board is to blame for burying head in the sand. Murray especially.

He made mistakes but did not lie although he should have been more open.

Won't disclose how much he made.

Rangers are still there. No job losses. Successful turnaround. Authorities to blame for club being in SFL 3.

Wants to set the record straight as others are to blame.
