Celtic cleared by Scottish FA over failing to prevent 'zombie' banner

Recommended Posts

Celtic have been cleared by a Scottish FA tribunal over charges that they failed to prevent an offensive banner being displayed at their stadium.

A section of the support had unfurled a banner during a pre-season friendly against Norwich City which led to the club facing four charges from the governing body.

A disciplinary tribunal met on Thursday and found the club not guilty on all counts.

The banner in question depicted a gunman shooting a Rangers supporting zombie which has risen from the ground next to a gravestone carrying the club's badge.

To the left, a reverse evolution process is shown, going in four stages from man to an ape which is sporting a Rangers scarf.

A Celtic spokesperson said: â??Celtic Football Club opposes all forms of offensive behaviour and unacceptable conduct and our supporters are well aware of what is expected in this regard.â?

â??We are surprised and disappointed that after providing a significant volume of evidence and information about our safety procedures, that todayâ??s hearing was actually necessary.

â??In addition to dropping several charges in advance of the hearing, the SFAâ??s Judicial Panel also accepted that Celtic had not breached any SFA rules.

â??We believe that Celtic Parkâ??s safety and security procedures are of the highest standard, something which was successfully demonstrated to the Judicial Panel by the club and by several witnesses, including independent industry experts.â?

Scottish FA rules require all clubs to take responsibility for the conduct of fans, listing a range of sanctions for any club which cannot prove that it had taken all reasonable precautions to ensure good behaviour.

Not great on understanding procedure, are they?

NEW SURRENDER TO CELTIC BY REGAN'S SFA

THE really frightening thing about Stewart Regan and Peter Lawwell’s Scottish Football Association’s failure to clamp down on Celtic for their offensive IRA themed banner is that it is in no way surprising.

Outrageous, it was most certainly was and a number of people have expressed their outrage at the Scottish Football Association’s craven cowardice in failing to stand up to Celtic.

But I have not heard one expression of surprise from supporters and journalists alike.

For the fact is that most people’s perception of the Scottish Football Association, since Stewart Regan became its chief executive, is that Scottish football’s governing body is in thrall to Celtic and all things Celtic.

And that all Celtic chief executive Peter Lawwell, seated beside Stewart Regan in the Hampden boardroom, has to do is snap his fingers for Regan to leap into action to do his bidding and help Celtic.

Regan appears eager to give his pal, Peter Lawwell’s Celtic, any aid and succour that is within his considerable power.

Most Rangers supporters are of the firm belief that all Peter Lawwell has to do when he sits at the SFA Hampden boardroom table, is to turn to the man next to him and tell him to jump and that man, Stewart Regan’s only retort will be to ask how high.

This latest episode only adds fuel to those beliefs. But it does more.

It is such a craven act by Stewart Regan that it is sure to embolden Celtic supporters and encourage them to turn up with new banners which are even more extreme.

Banners which will besmirch the good name of the Scottish nation. You think I am exaggerating? Well, cast you mind back to the viscious, disgraceful and morally reprehensible Bloodstained Poppy banner hoisted by the Green Brigade during a recent Remembrance weekend.

Peter Lawwell promised he would weed out the terrorist loving IRA luvvies who make up the Green Brigade. But the Green Brigade, a sinister and secretive organisation, remains in place.

Peter Lawwell also promised that he would get tough on the supporters whose F**k UEFA banner got Celtic in trouble with UEF He promised action to weed them out.

Once again there is no evidence in support of the Celtic chief executive and Scottish Football Association director, Peter Lawwell, having done anything of the sort.

Now, as Celtic close in on their back-to-back love in with the Catalan rebels of Barcelona, can we look forward to seeing more displays of political banners from Celtic supporters?

Perhaps.

But as the season for solemn Remembrance approaches in Britain, are we to be see Scotland’s contribution the solemnity scarred by Celtic once again?

The answer to that is probably, yes.

Especially as the Green Brigade and the rest of the zealots and IRA terrorist worshipers among the Celtic support now know that, with Peter Lawwell sitting around the Scottish Football Association boardroom table with SFA Stewart Regan, just a snapped finger away from doing his bidding, Celtic and the club’s supporters can get away with just about anything.

Which is outrageous. But not surprising.

No doubt they are free now to stick banners up depicting a hooded IRA gunmen shooting a protestant in the guise of a zombie wearing a Rangers scarf.

What a really sad sick joke this little backward country of ours is becoming.

We of course are now free to stick up the same flag. I would love to see us put up a full copy and see what happens.

The police would probably take it off Rangers fans during the strip search prior to entering Ibrox!
